I just installed a new steering knuckle lower ball joint. I had to removed the dust boot during installation because the tool was a bit too tight.
Now I want to clean and repack the ball joint because some dirt contaminated the grease. What I can use to clean and what type of grease to use?
While I am still tracking down the leak, I found mixed opinions on Lucas PS stop leak here.
Is this the one that we are talking about?

The Lucas stuff is kind of thick.
I have read someone only put half a bottle and it fixed...
Ok so I searched and read all the threads on this major PITA. Sounded like the most difficult DIY job for D2 owners, but I still have to tackle this.
Can't find a better write up than this...
Hi guys,
I moved to Hong Kong and got another Disco... Now have a 2004 DII with 35K miles.
Couldn't find Rotella T here, this is what they carry here:
Shell Rimula R6 LM (10W-40)
Heavy Duty Synthetic Diesel Engine Oil
SPECIFICATIONS & APPROVALS
ACEA: E7, E6; API CI-4, CH-4, CG-4, CF-4...
Thanks guys! Fixed the high revving, it was the cable. Now the truck starts and idle nicely.
So, what should I use to fix the breather hose connector? Any suggestion?
Hi guys,
I just replaced the coil packs of my 2000 DII with 130K miles. Took out the inlet manifold and used a new gasket. After I put everything back together the engine started right up, but immediately revved like I was giving it full throttle. I switched the engine off before it reached...
Hi,
Can somebody tell me where can I find the red clip that hold the brake hose to the intake manifold? I tried Atlantic British and British Pacific already.
Y2K DII
I got a new pair of front rotors from a friend who sold his disco. The rotors are purple. Is that normal? I tried to use brake cleaner to clean the rotors but the coating won't come out. The inside of the rotor is a normal silver color. I was told that the rotors are genuine LR and the box...
When I felt the bolts were too tight, I back them out and check them and then I did clean the holes with Q-tips. Is it ok to clean the holes with WD-40 or motor oils?
The heads went to the machine shop and they came back cleaned.
Also do you put high-temp cooper anti-seize on the bolts? I...
The driver side exhaust manifold bolts tightened smoothly, I can use my fingers to screw the bolts all the way then torqued them to spec.
A few of the passenger side bolts are tight from the beginning, to the point that I can not use my fingers to screw them in and have to use a socket. I felt...
Hi guys,
Newbie question again...
Need to confirm that 15 lb.ft (20Nm) is a really low torque setting, right? It doesn't take much force to feel the click on the torque wrench?
Newbie question...
I need to change my head gasket this weekend. Temperature will be around 32F in the garage. Maybe a little higher when I turn on the protable heater.
Will the low temperature cause problem when I put the engine back together? e.g. torque wrench setting etc? Anything...
Hi guys,
Just want to put a closure on this thread. Not able to work on my truck in the past week.
I took the heads to a LR dealer and the mechanic told me the nick is fine and won't affect the head gasket. They also verified that the machine shop has done a decent job.
So I am going to...
I found this video about repairing a torched deck surface on the LR head. Very impressive. Maybe the nick can be repaired like that?

The other video is about straightening a warped LR head. Not really related to this thread but still very good...
Yes, all the photos were taken with the plastic on the heads. I found the nicks then I decided not to touch the plastic for exactly the reason Rob said. Hopefully that's why the heads look like they weren't resurfaced.
:banghead: That doesn't sound good... Here are more photos on the heads - before I took them off, and after I got them back. I am planning to go to the local LR dealer and ask their opinion about how much was done on the heads. What do you guys think?
This machine shop told me that they have...
If you look at the photos closely, it seems like there are already some carbon debris fell in between the pistons and the cylinder wall... :banghead: Am I doomed?
