UPDATE:
Well, after using the leads that were shared here, I have to say that I'm calling it off.
I appreciate the advice you guys have given me. What I've learned is that the GM Vortec swap is totally doable. The big thing is that I would have to source a pre-1996 D1 to be my base in order...
Again, thanks for the advice, guys. Kennith and PM. I get what you're selling, but I came here not to learn all the reasons why it shouldn't/can't be done. I want to see how it has been done. I appreciate your advice, but it's falling on deaf ears.
Can't say that I've ever swung my dick and hit any car. My ass is another story: I did press a good full moon against the school bus window once when i was a kid.
OK, BACK ON TOPIC....
This thread isn't about discussing the merits of staying stock, or which engine you like better. It's about how to get GM engine into a D! and make it run.
So just to recap, we've already established
1. it's not worth it
2. it's a terrible idea
3. D1s already came with...
I appreciate the word of caution. I totally get what you're saying here, but that's not what I'm looking for. If am going to own an LR, it won't have that engine in it. Overweight for its power, unreliable, and expensive to repair is not the way I would like to go. It is the reason why these...

They have motor mounts for another $200.
Where else is...
Yeah, get back to us when you have some codes. All of the options in here could be it (plus much more). Other posibilities are fuel pump, coils, ets. But your scanner will give us a good place to start.
Hey everyone!
I've been really interested in trying a vortec swap into a D1. And it seems that every month or two there's a pretty clean D1 with a fragged engine coming up for sale in the -$1000 range on CL. It looks like Marks 4wd offers a good adapter tranny adapter and motor mounts.
The...
I love how it is being photographed on a dealer service bay. :D
Those pics were probably taken when the Seller "had it up to here with the damn thing," and was trying to prove to the service writer that he was, in fact, not interested in paying for the 65k mile service after already getting...
1. Good job on writing an honest sales ad. Not many people do that.
2. Bad job on asking if you're asking too much. Because your ad has now turned into a somewhat convincing discussion on why your truck isn't worth the asking price.
3. Don't go by the prices on Craigslist. There is a phenomenon...
