Anyone got a how-to on removal and replacement? Can I get it out with just a clawfoot or do I need to remove any other parts to get it out? Workshop manual no help :(

I am not clear why so many times, advice is to "unhook the battery to clear the parameters." I've been told that again and again and seen it so often. Wonder why.
