IIRC the casting numbers weren't too far apart for a few of us that had it happen. I think mine happened after I blew that small tapered hose and it got hot. The piston skirt was busted too but the original head gaskets looked good.
I put a break in write-up another user shared with me that might be helpful in the tech section.

I loved my old Cooper STTs. You might check out I put on Mastercraft Courser MXTs. They are nearly the same tread as the old STTs and made by Cooper. I got a set off Amazon (245/75/16) for ~$600. So far I like them but they aren't quite as good in the winter, I think the rubber compound may be...
I wish I would have known this when I did mine.
If you go the used block route you might think about having the liners pinned. I'm wishing I would have now.
Something different to think about might be an old freezer. When I was a teenager we had a barn fire and had one of those old 60s (guessing) upright freezers with the huge locking handle full of meat inside. The freezer made it thorough the fire and the inside was untouched. I know fires can be...
Drive it for awhile and see how you like it compared to your old lift and take it out a couple times and see if it's good enough for you before you lift it. Most of the dirt mine has seen was on the stock springs and it always did really well but I remember how nice that extra 2" was once I got...
I got a better look today and there’s quite a bit of fluid on the fitting below the master cylinder so I think it must be leaking. I didn’t check the caliper pistons after seeing that but I don’t think it would be a problem since rust usually isn’t an issue here.
The last couple days I noticed my brakes are softer than normal. The brake pedal is now going down below the gas pedal but doesn't feel like when I've had air in the brakes from repairs in the past. The fluid was low but I didn't see any obvious major leaks but did see a tiny bit of old dry...
If you get a set of heads from Will you could do this over a weekend. It's really not that bad of a job if you are prepared. I will loan you my In Search of the Experience DVD with the head gasket tutorial if you send it back.
I would definitely double check the valley gasket more...
I just picked up a pump, it seemed to be doing it more yesterday than it had been. I changed the coolant sensor last night so hopefully the P0116 code doesn't come back.
I have been having some random hard start issues and have codes P0158 O2 sensor bank 2 sensor 2 which I have had coming back for a long time, even after replacing the sensors, and P0116 coolant temp sensor.
I can't find much here on the P0116 code for the coolant temp sensor but I have a spare...
If your not running hot, putting the hood insulation back on could help (assuming it’s no longer there). When I took mine off I immediately noticed the hood was always hot and the paint started going shortly after. It may have faded anyway judging by the roof but I think it helped it along. I...
Mine leaked in that spot and I discovered it when water came out of the Homelink button. It was the seal right above the rear view mirror. I pulled the seal just enough to put silicone there and it stopped it. However, in a post about this awhile back someone told me I shouldn't have used...
The wrap worked well because I could put it beyond the window and peel it right back off around the edges as I pushed it through. I It probably kept 95% of it together but I still spent an hour getting the glass out of the inside of the door.
