My engine light came on with this as the code, but the truck has no symptoms. Does anyone know what could be happening or where this sensor is??? I'm assuming it's the temperature at the throttle body, but witht eh truck at normal operating temp, the throttle body feels warm. It also shows P0441, but I'm thinking that the first code caused the second code.

resurrecting an old post, for some closure. I recently had this code P0126 Insufficient Coolant Temperature for Stable Operation. I have a Ultra Gauge that displays temperature and it was showing around 165 and never hotter. So I replaced the Thermostat and the code eventually cleared itself, and of course the temperature is back up to around 205.

Just wanted to acknowledge that changing the thermostat did fix this code for me, even though I am not the original poster.

Graham, 165 is way too cold. The engine needs a certain temp range in order to run correctly.
Im running a 180 Tstat and it sits around 188 when running highway speeds and eventually peaks at 203 when idling. It then comes back down to 200 on its own.

I put in a stock thermostat, whatever temp that is. I know 165 is too cool, just posting my results on this thread because the original poster never posted how the issue was resolved. When I searched, this thread is all I found, but it did not really confirm that replacing the thermostat resolved the problem.

Just sharing my person experience with the P0126 code and how I was able to resolve it.

resurrection!!!!

I too am getting this code. I have watched the coolant temp rise, then drop, then hover in the 180s/190s

The intake temp also seems to be reading correctly.

It has been cold where I am at.... Like sub 0.

I do have a small coolant leak on the passenger intake manifold.

thoughts?

The switch that allows the computer to generate this code is in the Radiator. This sensor is what makes an SAI radiator different than a non-sai radiator. Even though it has nothing to do with SAI, it's still part of the LEV package.

so can a partially open thermostat can cause the motor to warm to slowly causing this code?

I guess, i should start by trying to tighten those manifold bolts and replacing the thermostat

These trucks need to run at >190*.

That is different from what many suggest. I think the fear has developed of running too hot rather than too cold. Depending on type of driving and weather, my truck runs 185 - 195* and in the heat of summer in stop/go traffic, can creep up to 207*.

I'm curious about why they NEED to be Greater than 190*. Not a challenge. I have no opinion. Just trying to learn something new.
