:banghead: Converted to HID lights but I did not initially seal the rear headlight. I ran the wiring out of the back not installing the cap. The condensation started on the inside top lens and discolored the side orange lens.

Initially I tried to remove the moisture w/alcohol and a hair dryer later. I drilled a hole in the stock cap and ran the wiring harness through it sealing the cap w/ the rubber groumet that came w/ the hid wiring harness. Should have done it from the beginning, but it's too late for that.

Question is- what can I do to remove the discoloration inside of the headlamp unit?

Thanks

The discoloration is white on the sides covering the amber square lens. The top of the clear (front) lens has a similiar white discoloration on the top lip where the lens bends. I'm guessing that it's acid rain that was in the air and the hid bulb's heat condensed the air eventually w/it settling in those areas.

Can the front lens be removed? I noticed prongs that attach from the clear lens into the black base of the unit or is it epoxied? I know that there are products to clean the exterior side of headlights.

I've read that some have suggested putting the headlight in an oven set at 200 degrees for 8 minutes. Not too sure that I want to chance this option.

Thanks for any input or suggestions-

That white is probably a mineral left over from the acid rain. You might could remove it with CLR, but of there is some metal in the housing and you get it on it, it'll tarnish or dissolvle it. I tried to take mine apart once but quit when I felt like I was going to break it. Sorry I can't be more help.

I tried to pry one tab on the top of the lens but it cracked off. I know it's sealed and probably epoxied w/access on the rear using the spin off caps. I thought about CLR but worry that it will cause more damage than good- possibly discoloring the chrome plastic reflector or the metal as you suggested.

I'm not in the market to replace them. I was hoping that there was some solution that could be used to pour in the lamp and drain out drying the headlamp upside down w/a hair dryer. Not looking good so far. Most of the products are polish type and come w/ a pad or suggest certain types of sand paper and then using a sealer. Sounds great for the outside just not applicable for the inside.

Don't use sandpaper! Get you a Porter Cable buffer and 3M Hook It set up for buffing the paint, glass and lights. It's well worth the money. I use 3M Finess It for a buff and the latest McGuires wax.
