04 disco radio static with no key?

Strange thing going on my 2004 discovery radio sometimes comes on witht the key out or the speakers will have static with the key out and no sound. When I put the key in everything works fine. I pilled the radio fuise second from the bottom 15 amp and the sound stoped. can this be an ignition problem? or is there something else going on? Thanks everyone. P.S. just had the passanger window regulator replaced do you thing it is possible that they damaged a wire someway? thanks again

Did it start immediately after the regulator was replaced?

It has been about a week since the work was done.

Probably wasn't the regulator, unless the placed a speaker wire in a position to be scraped or rubbed. Then if that happens, it can short the amp causing the amp to overwork itself due to a change in resistance.

I am going to call the shop in the morning that did the work and see what they think it is. I hope that it is a wore they crossed. if not it going to be expensive. lol

The belive that the amp is out. I called $600 for the amp OUCH. I am still trying to decide if it is better to replace the factory radio with an aftermarket with bluetooth USB and mp3 jack. I was told that if i do get a new radio all of the wire will have to be rerun to the speakers.

Anyone, why would you need to run new wires to speakers???

If the factory amp is bad, you can't just hook a new head unit up to the wires that go to the amp. You would have to bypass the amp and let the new head unit power the speakers on its own. You probably could actually splice the wires together at the amp, just be sure to have the rave manual nearby. Also, remember the transmission ecu is below the amp, don't cut any wires to it or you will have much bigger problems.

the stereo in this truck is far more complicated than a 1974 nova. yes the amp must be bypassed, no you can't just "put another amp in". not without some rewiring. think long and hard about this. it is alot of work but you will have a nicer stereo.

Yep just replaced amp with one I recived from discoweb. Found out after the fact the wife had cleaned the seat with a cup of water. There was signs of water one the amp that I removed. One thing that I did notice was that the amp I replaced it with was a hardman kardon and mine wasnt same connection and works great.
