I just broke my passenger side wing mirror (it suffered a heavy knock). The mirror housing seems OK, just the mirror broke, and fell off - only being held up by the heater cables. I've ordered a replacement mirror.

Is there a trick to replacing the mirror, or is it just a matter of clipping the new mirror into place? I'm guessing I would start by connecting the heater cables, then line up the little plastic glide and clip it into place. I am concerned that if I push too hard I will force the mirror mount off the little plastic drives that control the mirror adjustment.

Anyone have any opinions, or done this before?

Hey Ron I did the same thing, but the connector that holds the mirror plate on the main mirror body also broke on one side. Using a bungee right now! Is this gonna cost me $500?

on the DI's, you can actually replace just the mount for the mirror. it was something like $5. little square thing, with a bar on each side that the mirror clicks onto. not sure if same for DII's.

it is the same for a DII. I had some dorky woman in a Tahoe knock my mirror while I was parallel parked...broke the glass and the square bracket...total repair in parts was less than 50 bucks.

If your mirror guts still oscilate when you use the controls, then you'll be on the hook for 50 bones or so.

Well, I have done the replacement.

A little word of advice - drive the mirror adjustment out as far as it goes. This makes it easy to line up the little plastic arm, and clip in the first side of the mirror (the closest side to the car). Then with a little pressure on the side of the mirror, pushing outwards, the other side clips on quite easily. Another reason for driving the mirror adjustment out as far as it goes is that it limits the amount of lateral pressure on the ball joint that does left-right adjustment. I did pop this out three times before I worked out my way of limiting the pressure on this ball joint. But the end result is that the new mirror is in place and is fully adjustable.
