Any codes for cam sensors? The engine is my latest LR3 was toast when I bought it. I'm not sure of exactly what went wrong, because someone gave me a price for a turn key engine replacement, so I didn't get any further than checking compression. I had 0 on one cylinder and low compression on some of the others on the passenger side bank. The only persistent code was for the cam sensor on the bank. I figure it jumped time or broke a cam or something. The engine didn't look like it was well maintained like my previous LR3, so I decided against trying to get someone to fix it and opted for a used replacement engine instead. They aren't cheap, probably close to what you paid for the whole vehicle. Maybe more than I paid for mine ;-)

I'm thinking pull the valve cover and go from there, hoping it's a timing set and tensioners, maybe the variable valve timing beat to death?

There is obvious long term oil sea page from that top front corner

Did not go for codes yet, guess I need to remove the ug from my d1 to read the codes

There are some special tools required for doing the timing set, a coupe of plates to hold the cams, an alignment pin for the crank, maybe some holders or tensioner too. The kit is about $300 on ebay if I recall correctly.

OK thanks, I'm not afraid to spend money to repair the engine myself, cause I am sure as replacement used is insane, just hoping it: is in the top don't feel like pulling the engine for the crank

No metal in the oil, no coolant in the oil , no oil in the coolant and engines not smoking or pouring out oil

I think so. There is a more expensive one that has pullers for the pulleys too. I'm not sure how necessary they are. Maybe one of the guys that do this for a living will give their opinion on which tools are absolutely required.

I'm not sure, but I assume it is, because the manual mentions that you must tighten the intake cam pulley before the exhaust cam pulley or engine damage will occur.
