1.9 TDI in a RRC???

I have a chance at purchasing a 1.9 liter TDI VW engine from a friend's wrecked car. My 95 RRC hardly ever leaves the small island where I live, speed limit is 25mph everywhere! I use the RRC as my beach truck and occasionally have it on the sand.
Any idea if the 1.9 diesel will be too under-powered to handle the RRC?
I realize the conversion may be tedious, but my 2 year success with running waste vegetable oil in my 83 Mercedes makes me crave a veggie-burner for surf trips.
Any input is appreciated.

I dont think it would be any more under powered than a 110 with 2.25natural.I guess you could gear it the same as the 110. Manual trans and the lowest ratio transfer case you can get.

Jim Hall in Co put one in a Series. He should be a good resource, look him up on the Solihull Society Board.

a 1.9L ALH engine can be meade to make 140hp and 270 ft lbs of torque and be very reliable at that level.

go to TDIclub.com and read in the conversion section ...there is everything you would ever need to put one into pretty much anything.

sounds like a cool conversion.

I've seen them in Suzukis, and it'd sure have as much torque as a worn 3.9l. I'd hold out for something bigger though.

This is very intriguing and much cheaper then the International. They can be found in salvage yard in the US. The engine probably can be tuned to provide as much HP and torque as the 3.9 V8. It would be a fun project. Wish Mercedes would get off their butt and start production of the DiesOtto.
