How many Rovers have YOU actually completed Carry?
I work on them everday Evan. How's sean's truck coming along?
Jason T, you're right, the original post said the easiest route, the 9 inch is kinda custom, that's my bad.
Does my employer pay me to inspect them?.. depends if the customer wants to keep them.. but I do, because I was hell bent in the beginning to use one...
I had one in my 109 with zero complaints and it worked fine, but I didn't use it on any overland type activites
Oh yeah, Evan, it's CAREY
Good Luck with the build!

Guys,

your comments have been nothing but helpful! Thanks for everyone's input. From here on out, I guess you can use the thread to discuss the BEST Axle options (simplicity and cost put aside)

I found a good deal on a Sals ARB Locker so Sals it is.

BTW, is it Salsbury or Salisbury? I keep seeing both...which is correct?

Salisbury.

In addition to being a very robust unit the Salisbury is by far the most field-serviceable of the options you listed.

Salisbury.

In a 109 you can install a Detroit locker in it and hardly ever know its in there. Call up Performance Off Road Center (porc) and they can get you a detroit for the salisbury for like, 400 bucks.

Can you provide a link and a part number?

Goodness, that is cheap.

I think James Gall paid more along the lines of 400.00 for his locker. I could be mistaken, though. But, seems to me that a Dana 70 locker will fit. I tried to cross reference the part number, but could not find a D-70 locker with the same number.

Same part number but try 4wheelparts wholesalers. They have the same locker for $315 with free shipping if ordered through the website (these suckers are heavy). Looking @ putting one in my 24 spline Salisbury.

Definitely going for the Sals. I've located one locally and then that ARB I found. By next paycheck I should have the rear drivetrain in teh garage, hopefully.

Shorter driveshaft, and move the spring perches to match the 88"s springs. You might be able to redrill the center pin s on the springs and move the axle back 1" or so too, I think TAW outlines that on her site:

Don't forget the 109 has the larger brakes so either put the 10" on the Salisbury or get a set of 11" front 109 brakes for the front axle.
