I want to install a 12V cigarette lighter/accessory outlet in the engine bay of my 04 Disco to power my light, shower, etc... Does anyone have any smart ideas on where to fit the outlet? I'm planning on building a box with the outlet, a fuse and a switch. I already have a second battery installed, so that fills the rear right hand side of the engine bay.

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

A couple of thoughts...

Check boat stores nearby or online (West Marine, Boater's World) and choose one of the marine sockets made from stainless to fend off corrosion. One with a flip-type cover would be good as well to keep the mud out.

Think about making a simple bracket to mount it in the grill. That makes it handy and should not look to bad if sprayed black.

Thanks for the replies.
What I did was build a little box with a 12V cigarette lighter outlet, a fuse and a switch, and mount it on top of my fuse box, just behind the main battery. Then I wired it direct to the main battery and routed the cables around the fuse box so they are out of the way and very neat. Where I located it makes it easy to get to the switch, the fuse, and where the 12V accessories plug in is over the void between the fuse box and the master cylinder (TD5 models_ could be a slightly different layout for the V8).
I'll post a photo of it early next week after I get back from a weekend camping trip.

Oh...one more thing - I used a plastic socket with a rubber flip-over cover that seals quite nicely and should prevent dust and moisture getting into the socket.
