Schleven, I recommend you look for the genuine factory 180-tstat (grey) version instead of the Motorad (white) version. Lots of threads around regarding the merits of the former.

Oh it fixed that wicked knock my 03 had. Wildest thing I have ever seen.

Oil temps get very high on these things. If rover incorporated an oil thermostat, like every air cooled Porsche, that would help with some of the failure issues. Get oil temp to 200 degrees and keep it there. That's one nice thing about water to oil coolers, until the seal fails and you get milkshake.
