I don't have a problem with the person or the idea of selling these trucks to the US, but they are all so old it's difficult to justify the expense of purchase plus restoration and maintenance. I love the 110s, but there are some days that my 95 feels like a dinosaur.

To put $14K into something, I think I would want it to be in better shape to begin with...not to mention these are 25 years old!

my $.02.

Think about it this way.....this 1983 110 is 12 years older than your 1995 D1, which itself is 13 years old. From a technological standpoint, this 1983 110 is more like 30 years older than your D1. This 1983 D1 is rusted clean through in places, the paint is practically non-existent, and it probably needs a new bulkhead and a new frame. Plus it's not even in this country yet.

And yet your Disco is worth a couple grand max and this 1983 pile of rust flakes is worth $14,000? This doesn't make much sense to me but then again globallandrovers did say that he has plenty of people contacting him for his trucks. I guess I can see that....people pay big bucks for frosted flakes shaped like Jesus on ebay, afterall. It is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

I'm just wondering if globallandrovers has been or would donate 5% of his sales price to dweb? I mean, he is clearly here to "use" the site as he sees fit.

I agree that this particular truck is a fucked up beater, but in my case my 1985 110 is in much better shape than my 1997 disco.
To quote Indiana: "It's not the years honey, it's the mileage." (and restoration).

Being 25 years old doesn't necessarily mean it HAS to be a piece of shit.

But how much did you have to sink into your 85 to get it like that Jack? I mean, yours is the type that would fall under the "restored to better than original" type category....vs original but falling apart?

I'm certainly not in the classic car industry where original vs restored is a huge discussion, and I do agree it's more about condition than age, but it just seems that all these "special" but worn out trucks are pretty pricey!

(Was Indiana Jones the original for that quote?)

I spent a lot.
And it's not "restored" but it's definitely been improved.

Agreed.
These trucks are a rip-off.
A bunch of people are going to buy old junkers thinking it's their dream truck and they are going to have to deal with a complete POS. It's going to be a sad day when those rover dreams come crashing down.

My point was merely that there are still good trucks out there and if you are shopping the early trucks it really isn't any harder than finding a nice clean disco1 in the US. They are getting rarer every day, but you can still find them.

If you want an early 110, just be realistic. Realize what it's going to take to have a nice truck and then I think you'll be happy when it's all done.

I'll say this, I'd rather restore/refurbish an erector set 110 than a Disco1 or RRC any day.

That's what I'd be afraid of...you drop $14K on a sexy truck that "needs a bit of work" and then when you get it in your garage you find that it's more rust than original metal and you end up reconstructing it from scratch. What's the "heart" of the truck? What's left after you buy a new frame, bulkhead, various body panels, doors, interior, engine, transmission, axles, suspension, brakes, wheels?

That all might VIN number Blue. That's the value of these pieces of shite

I understand where you're coming from but I have to call bullshit on it. The VIN isn't the heart of a truck; the VIN is a legal term and yes, it is the legal loophole that moves these rustbuckets around the world. But it still ain't the heart of it all.

True, he has been here peddling his wares for a little while now. I wonder if anyone here has bought anything off of him and if he did donate?

...I'm not really looking to make money as my main motivation in doing this is to devalue all NAS defender products because I hate the air that they have about them.

This is a joke, right?

I hope so. I love NAS Defenders, but the silliness around their price tags is out of control... 1983 110 hi-cap being the perfect example... or the other 2 door 110 picture in this thread that is supposed to be "up for offer at $30000". Are you serious? Not worth that much.

I flew in and we drove her 400miles round trip to the rally and back with no problems at all.
we averaged 25mpg (US) on the road. I offroaded her at the meet and there were no problems and her performance suprised a lot of people.
Met loads of really nice chaps who use this site, it was great to meet you all, I hope to return for the MAR in october for a few more beers.
