Prefilled with rotella 15w40 and installed the larger wix aaaaa filter. Cranked 20 sec with fuses for injection and fuel pump out. Then started and it took another 20 sec before oil pressure was there. The fuel PO pressure went up 2-3 psi at idle cold... From 32 to 35. Same behavior with revving the engine up dropped the oil pressure 2 psi.

I will make screw adjustable washer / shim for the oil relief valve and see what that accounts for.

Another cold start test with the wix low bypass filter. No modification to relief valve yet. Pressure starts to builds up in 1 second and passes 10psi in two seconds. Maxes out at 37 psi at idle cold.

Next will be adding the relief valve pressure adjuster to it.

I have been looking into electric oil boost pumps and am not really satisfied with what I have found so far; the affordable ones are mostly gear pumps.. which tend to shed metal. It may be necessary to convert a drysump scavenger to electric.

That said, an accumulator would be relatively cheap and easy; one thing about accumulators I have always wondered about though: are there edge cases wherein the extra oil finds it's way into the pan? a couple extra quarts is a LOT... I'd hate to hydraulic a motor from an overly protective accumulator overfilling the pan.

This scenario comes up at every oil change (unless you remove the accumulator and pre charge it as you would for a fresh engine). Never caused me any grief.

This is a copy of the posts on the oil pressure thread...

Well some progress. Made an adjustable shim. Took the circlip and oil relief spring out.
Used a threaded rod in a frame home that is nice inline with the oil pressure relief cap to push the whole assembly back in

Oil pressure cold low middle.40 psi.
Adjusted my shim about a turn..44 psi.

Cold start this morning.. oil pressure gauge starts to move after one second and on 44 psi after 3 seconds .
Now it is much warmer, like 62f so this data point does not mean al that much.

Took it for a drive ,outside temp around 65f. Immediate pressure on starttup, climbs to 42psi within 3 seconds.
Climbed a 11 % mountain for about 1 mile, went down and up again.
Oil pressure at idle 14psi climbs to 30psi at 1500rpm. Does not go above 40 psi at any rpm once hot.

Oil pressure drops with 4psi when accelerating and increases again when letting go of the throttle. I assume my crankshaft moves forward and backward a bit, maybe because of the manual clutch has worn the axial bearing a bit??

Either way installing and oil pressure gauge gives valuable information.
