1995 Disco leak pooling on timing belt cover?

Started to see a pool of some type of liquid on top of my timing belt cover by the distributor clamp bolt. At first I though it was from when I cleaned the engine bay but after some miles driven it started pooling again. I have over 222,000. Don’t feel like taking everything apart from the timing belt to fix the leak might as well get her rebuilt

question: and solution without taking the timing belt cover if not. Any good engine shop in the socal area lol

Too soon of a post. I think I found the problem. It was leaking from the top hose and dripping down onto the valley pan and timing belt cover. Tightened the hose clamp hopefully it was that. But been thinking of pulling the trigger and rebuilding the engine.

I will post updates.

I have one pooling there from a slow intake/valley gasket leak up high on the passenger/RHS. Thought I'd solved it with the (bigger) hose leak you mentioned but nope. And before that, it was masked by an even BIGGER leak from the timing cover gasket. Seems like 200k is EOL for a lot of gaskets (or maybe every 100k). I'm procrastinating on the intake gasket because it looks like such a pain of a job. I have about your mileage and wonder if I should just budget a full rebuild at this point.

You probably have a leaky heater hose union..

There is a short hose (3 inches or so) that joins the "hard line/nipple coming off the intake manifold water jacket" to the hard line running to the firewall.

This hose/line/connector is necked down on one side (because of course they couldn't use a straight hose...)

It gets baked by the engine and ultimately starts pissing.

*its right behind the alternator....and it **will** cause coolant to leak down the front...starting with the timing cover.

I checked that and no leak. Since righting the hose clamps I haven’t seen and more leaking. Hopefully it was that. Thank you all for the help.

My buddy just picked up a barn find 1997 D1 [NAS GEMS] with cooling problems... the electric fans were dead and the radiator was loaded up. Now the needle doesn't budge He wired the fans to a manual switch... [Arizona]. :)

I am in the same boat. I am thinking of rebuilding it. I just got a chance to get a 4.2 from a 95 LWB. But don’t know if that will be plug and play in my 95 disco

heard you need to chance flywheel , ECM chip, etc….
