I am looking at buying a 1995 Disco w/115,000 miles on it. The only big problem on it is a whine from the ****** going down the freeway. What could be the problem? and/or how can it be fixed.$$$
It also needs a right front speed sensor as the abs will kick in when you brake and turn right. It will also need brakes soon.
Thanks for any help on this, as I have never owned a Land Rover

sure hope it's really really cheap. whining could be trans or x-fer case, no way to tell over the internet. Either way could cost some bucks. Often times if they've been soccer mom/mall cruisers, they haven't had the fluids checked- ever. Sometimes they have no fluid in the x-fer case. I've seen that happen twice.
The wheel speed sensor is easy to replace and brakes are no biggie, but gets expensive with rotors or calipers being replaced. Double check the diagnosis on the ABS.

Stick shift or auto? Auto is a strong and long lasting, stick is weak. Transfer case is whiny. Have you checked the fluids? are they fresh?
Hoses are due for replacement or leakage,
Brakes. front rotors generally last 90k. Check www.roverparts.com for prices
Its just at the stage where lots of money can be spent
Bushings if not replaced need it. Spring/shocks
How many leaks and from where?
How much are they asking
Are the tires cheap or Michelin type quality?

The 95 Tfer Cases Were A Bit Louder Anyway And Is The Sole Reason That Land Rover Switched To The Lt230q.
As A New Owner You May Be Hearing Something That Is Completely Normal For The Beast...but Dont Take A Chance...have It Looked Over First...does It Shift Freely Between High And Low??
In Late 96 Early 97 They Switched To The 230q And Helped Get Rid Of Some Of The Noise...

On my 01 DII, I had a whine for a little bit.. finally brought it into the dealer and it was just the tensioner belt and idler pulley [I believe? I dont have receipt near by], that needed to be replaced or readjusted and it sounded great again..
