I'm going to look at a '95 LWB this weekend. From the description it appears to be well cared for with low miles, but I will reach a more informed opinion once I have the chance to see it in person.

From prior discussions on Discoweb I get the impression that parts can be difficult to come by for this model year. What is the issue here and how big of a concern is it?

Isn't the engine the same as 1993-94 14CUX 4.2?
Much of the interior looks similar to the Disco 1, barring some obvious differences.
What is unique to the 1995 LWB and how much of a problem has this been for people with ownership experience (and sales experience- I'm looking at you, PT and Marty)?

Thoughts appreciated.

Ha! I thought it was too good to be true, and sure enough... This is the email I received from the seller in response to my inquiry:

Thank you for contacting me about my 1995 Land Rover Range Rover LWB that I have for sale. This suv is in great shape .It has no damage. It is in immaculate condition, meticulously maintained and hasn't been involved in any accident. I do have the title, clear. My husband and I divorced last month, after the divorce I was awarded with the suv, I don't need it and that's why I'm selling it cheap. The total price is $3,500 including delivery and handling. It is located in Fargo, ND. I recently moved here after I divorced.
We can use Amazon Protection Program for our safety and for payment I prefer to use a Amazon FPS's buyer protection plan. The financial part will be managed by them.
Which means that you will have 10 days inspection period before committing to buy the vehicle, a refund policy is included. The deal will go strictly according to Amazon FPS rules and policy. There are no other costs on this transaction through Amazon. Let me know if you want to buy it and i will send you more details and photos.

Details:

Price: $3,500
Engine: 4.2L 4200CC V8 GAS OHV Naturally Aspirated
Mileage: 67,900
VIN: 1FMEU15N9SLA17428

Regards,

Karen Lind

The craigslist ad gave the location of the truck in Seattle. Now suddenly it's in North Dakota? And how about that VIN- not sure what it is but it doesn't start with SAL. No thanks.

I'd ask for VIN again. You can tell her that the VIN does not match the description.

As far as differences go - obviously, the dash is different and unique.
There are subtle differences in body parts between a 95 and earlier Classics - for instance, the windshield is different, and trim and gaskets around it.
The engine is 14CUX - but with a serpentine belt, just like the D1, so fan clutch would be the same as on D1.
Fuel pump is the same between 95 Classics and up-to-mid-96 MY D1.
The radiator is the same as D1 (I've used D1's on the Classic and vice versa).
I've never checked personally - I heard that the HVAC setup is all like D1, and not like earlier Classics.

The Y-pipe/Cats _may_ be different - but a month ago, I used one from a 2003 D2; it required welding in smaller bungs for the upstream sensors, and using 18mm x 1.25mm bolts to close the downstream sensor bungs.

So... in 13 years of ownership of a 95 LWB and 5 years with 95 SWB, I can't say there are too many unique parts (hope I don't jinx myself).

If the RR you are looking at has any cracked or broken plastic dashboard parts , such as the instrument bezel, it will be nearly impossible to source replacements.

Call Amazon, I have heard this story about "my husband died" or "I'm in the military ans am going overseas," ect., ect. These scammers use eBay and Amazon as a way to make people think they're legit. Like I said, call Amazon customer service and they'll tell you the same think.

Now, as far as the unobtainables go, they mainly relate to the interior.

Instrument bezel
Center dash fascia
Dash vents
Clock
Center console wood trim aka ski slope
Front HK speaker covers
Rear window regulators

I get requests all the time for these parts from '95 owners.

As far as the engine is concerned, it's got more in common with a '94 or '95 DI than earlier RRC's but there really isn't anything I can think of that's too terribly hard to locate. Body parts are interchangeable with other LWB's and SWB's so that's not really an issue. I'm sure I'll think of a few other little items that may be tricky to locate but I have a feeling that'll be less because it's a '95 and more to the point that they're all getting old and parts are getting scarce.

Oh, yeah, power seat ECU's. Rare as hen's teeth for anyone with a '93-'95 Classic to finding working. Rebuilds cost an arm and a leg AND you loose the memory feature.

Don't do like I did...and ignore your working drivers seat.
Take it out quick and inspect/replace that battery.
I doubt there are any good ECU's left out there as they are all now 19-22 years old.

I called about that LWB too, and get the same scam. That same Rover is also on the Tampa Bay FL Craigslist. I hate scammers!!

I'm telling you, whenever you see someone wanting to "use" eBay or Amazon as the intermediary, you know it's BS. Neither company offers such a service. It's just an attempt to make their scam look more credible.
