Loud pop and CLUNK on the front passenger side window of my 1996 D1 and the window doesn't work. Motor sounds fine and I assume it's the regulator. Opened the door frame and saw a BIG piece of metal, half-moon shape with metal teeth on the outer circumference sitting by itself at the bottom of the internal door frame. I have replaced broken nylon washers on other window regulators but this is a different problem, i assume. Here is a pic of the piece that broke off. i assume i need a new regulator.....

Thanks.

Yeah. That piece is supposed to be spot welded to the end of the main support on the regulator mechanism. I guess one of the wheels must have gotten stuck, or jumped the track, then the whole thing levered it self off. :ack: Those three marks are where the welds were..

thanks. Will Tillery to the rescue.

so, how much of the door do i have to disassemble to swap out the regulator? I know i have to remove the tan panel and peel off the weather-proofing plastic, but do i have to then disassemble the whole metal door compartment to replace this regulator???

I jusr replaced the same regulator last week. You need to take the panel off .Once that is off you will need to pull off the plastic behind the door panel.Once that is done you will be able to see the 4 screws that hold the regulator inplace.its a matter now of taking out the screws and pulling out the regulator and replacing it.

thanks. what about the window regulator motor. (mine is working fine). i assume i have to disconnect it, unscrew it and remove it before i remove the regulator, or can i disconnect the regulator from the motor while it is all in the door and then attach the new regulator to the motor from inside the door, too? also, i assume the window is somehow mounted onto the regulator. what is involved in getting the window out of the regulator??

I just had the same thing happen to mine. I re-welded mine together and it works great. It is easy to line-up if you use the old spot welds as a guide.

Hi:

Mine did the same thing, but just bent into a cresent shape. Where did you get the nylon washers to replace the originals? Thanks.

Just fixed mine as well, I drilled out the spot welds and put some flush rivets in to hold it together, we'll see how that works.

To get the thing apart theres the four screws in the door on the motor assembly
, two screws for a guide and then the two on the bottom of the window.
