Hi folks,
I located a relative rust free 1997d1 auto. 125000 miles. It is not running, that is , the starter does not crank over.

Some one has removed the radio and cut some wires at the passenger foot well. Looks the green imobilizer is cut out and gone
Under the steering column some loose wires as well.

With a good battery the dash light comes on and I have fuel pressure.
But no crank.

The car sat for several years.

My questions.

What signal is required to the gems pin26 ECU to bypass so that I can start the engine?

Does the 1997 /1998 nas model have a becm.

Thank you.

Johan

Thank you, I am trying to sort thru the diagrams with the immobilizer and how that communicated with gems ECU. Maybe it is easier to convert the gems to cux?

Try this, might work might not.

Black with red/orange stripe wires on the harness to the green box (missing in your case) there are 2 of the same color wires. Connect them together and should allow the engine to crank, Note that also you can just jump the starter from the battery cable to the trigger wire on the solenoid and it will bypass all of that and crank the engine over. Key on of course.

Let us know if that does it. Would be interesting,

Thanks for all the replies..I took a leap of faith and bought the car. Hope I can get it home in the next couple of days and see a bit further.
Am I correct in my understanding that as the fuel pump is activated that the spark / injection are enabled as well, so only the starter is still disabled because of the green box. And prevents it now to be started or is the fuel pump always enabled when you turn the key.

Thank you all,
Johan

An update, after all the advise and schooling on this issue I went there today to pay and do the title work.

Made some pics. I know slightly better what I am looking at now.

Surprise the green box is there. I guess the connector that was hanging loose is for something else.

Anybody know what is missing under the steering column.

The white plug in the last photo for the radio's amp. You can see where it goes behind the 7.5-amp fuse at the top right of pic #2. Many people circumvent this amp when they die. So you do have an issue starting but lucky for you the alarm (green box in pic #2) wiring looks intact!

There is a lot of info on these message boards, and getting started can be a bit of a learning curve and a lot of searching for answers. If you have fuel, I would look at the starter!

Oops, I see I did not update..
Car is here and working thru problems. Immobilizer is actually there, I just was not informed enough to know what I was looking at.
Car now starts fine after rebuilding ignition switch. Now struggling with rough idle, waiting for iacv and sparkplugs but I am afraid that a couple of injectors are leaking as well.

Thanks for all the help.
