1997 Disco 1 Oil Pump Gear Replacement

Googled the hell out of this topic, looked at the Rave Manual. But looking for a writeup on how to replace the oil pump gears.

I am reading references in the forum about packing the gears with vasoline to prime etc....but cannot find a good writeup that I am comfortable with tackling this job with. Even looked for Atlantic British videos....

I wouldn't use vaseline. Lucas make some proper lube for the job. I've done 3 what do you need to know?

Just looking for the basic steps so that I don't take anything off or move out of the way than I have to.

It seems pretty straight forward once you can get to the front cover...but for example, do I need to remove the water pump from the cover or can I just leave it on to save some time and effort?

Is it intuitive once I get the cover comes off on how i put the gears back in? Forums discuss people putting them in incorrectly and the bind.

I will look for the lucas product you referenced. But again, once this is all back together will it self prime?

Looking for a quick checklist on the process. Again, don't want to fumble around and do this inefficiently.
