Hello all. I purchased my first Land Rover yesterday. After a lot of searching, I found a very nice clean example. It is an S model, so no sunroofs. I did enough research to be pretty confident in pulling the trigger on it. I did a fly and drive to Virginia from Illinois to get it yesterday. Everything was as advertised, so I got it and started heading home. About 200 miles into my trip, the 3 amigos came on. It was at that moment that I truely felt like a Land Rover owner.

I plan on modding it out as an over landing rig for a family of 4. It should be an enjoyable project. Thanks in advance for questions that I will have during the build.

Andy

I ordered a crap load of stuff today. From Atlantic British, I ordered a baja roof rack, 5 terrafirma steel wheels, 2" terrafirma lift, shock towers, steering damper, rear bumper, cargo (dog) barrier. From RTE I ordered the rock sliders w/ round nerf bars and a front bumper. And I ordered a warn vr10-s from some company I have never heard of. I cannot wait to get some of this stuff in to get modding this beast.

Damn! Way to dive in! Better do your maintenance or you'll have a great looking driveway ornament! : )
That is so true! I have about a month before all my stuff will be here. I plan to use that time to freshen up all of the fluids and filters and give it a good going over. It is not my daily driver, so it will get pretty light use until I get it fully sorted. I do have an intermittent 3 amigos, but besides that it looking really good so far.

Exhaust gas test on resivoir, flush radiator, get an oil sample check for coolant in oil and look at the rear frame horns at the welds on seam they are waiting to rust through. I am sure i missed some other big problems but Efit your already there fixem and youll have rig like no other and just remember jeeps and others break too. We all expect some dirty pictures so dont be poser, ride dirty. may the GODS be with you

I appreciate your thoughts. Since I last posted I have had it on a lift and gave it a thorough going over. Overall this is a clean machine. I do believe that I have a small head gasket leak (coolant very slowly lowering / slight white exhaust on start up only) so I will be diving into that soon. I have a bunch of schtuff coming in this week, so I will be installing a bunch of accessories and then diving in deeper to get it sorted.

I took it out for a test drive and I am getting a little bit of a shimmy between 40-45 mph. It is smooth above and below that area. I noticed a lot of wheel weights on one of the tires (front), so I am going to swap it out with the spare and see what happpens.

Thanks. I changed out the tire with the most wheel weights (left front) with the spare, which is also a brand new Terrafirma steel rim and Cooper STT pro tire. No more shimmy. Smooth as British, mud terrain laden silk. I will take that tire back and have them try it again. They are a good mom and pop local tire shop. They will make it right.
