Got an interesting issue with out 00 DII (ACE/SLS)

Been pulling 2 codes consistantly the last couple days...the rover is running like crap.

The codes are:
P102 MAF or VAF circuit low input
P1884 MFR Control - Transmission.

I replaced the MAF a few months ago to fix a running lean issue. It worked great.

I just noticed the wire harness to the MAF was touching the ACE pump...apparently that puppy must get warm..because it melted the plastic loom and the insulation on 2 wires (I assume they both grounded out) - the 2 and 4 pinout (Brown/pink and All Red)

Also for the past week or so, I noticed the rear pass side brake pad wore out to the backing plate and is cutting into the rotor. I have new rotors+pads to replace them with..just haven't had the time to do it. Next week...I promise...not sure if that contributed to anything...

other than the motor running like @ss, everything else seems great.

I repaired the wires on the MAF, cleaned the contacts with electric contact cleaner and am still getting the code. I checked the MAF fuse and it was OK. I am getting power at the MAF connector

Not sure if I fried the MAF (or something more $$)

Is there a way I can troubleshoot the problem (test the MAF or the wiring). I assume that one wire is power, another groung, and sensor wires...any clue what they should show?

Are there any fuses to check that might have blown? (where)

Anything else to check??

thanks!

P1884 has a few different causes, but most relate to the gearbox / torque convertor sensors conflicting with other drive train sensors. You'll need a Testbook diagnosis to find the precise cause.
Some possible causes....
Engine friction invalid
Throttle position invalid
Engine temperature invalid
Road speed invalid
Engine torque invalid
Engine speed invalid
Engine air intake temperature invalid
Altitude shift control invalid

Do you go to www.citysidegarage.com?

Definitely the indie place to go in the Boston area. Alan's shop is located in Holliston

Thanks...

It all looks like it is pointing to a bad MAF sensor...If it is fried...the MAF would/could give a bad intake air temp (as the MAF is the air intake temp sensor)

I could try another MAF....since everything is pointing to that...the fuse is good...getting power to the MAF.. I just didn't want to buy another one if everyone said that it could be something else...

I know about cityside...that was my next trip if I couldn't figure it out for myself..

Where I have received NO codes for months since replacing the MAF...and now get 2 codes instantly...and finding melted wires, etc...Just was not sure if there was anything else that could have fried (relays, other fuses, etc) or a anything else to check... I didn't want to get a new MAF and have it fry instantly either... But I think it should be OK...I'll repair the wires a bit better..I just threw some tape on it to insulate it...

Maybe I should just buy the MAF in bulk.. LOL

Just replaced the MAF with a new one. CEL is out. No codes. Drives fine. This time I put a zip tie on the wire harness to keep it away from the ACE pump. Also, the harness would not 'snap' to the MAF. I had to zip tie the harness to the MAF to get it to stay. Oh well.

Also replaced the rear brakes with the EBC slotted/dimpled rotors and greenstuff pads. Not too bad of a job. Had a caliper blow out. Got a new one installed. whew..

Like new again! Awesome brakes in case anyone was wondering

Congrats!

Just how long did you drive it metal-on-metal? I cant stand doing that even for one day!

about a month. Caliper was toast....had to replace it....

the outer pad was totally missing...one wheel was totally brown from metal dust...having a bitch of a time removing it...

Pretty screwed up...but it went back together well...taking the caliper off did require some heat to get them out..but they came out...

stop well...drives well...

Just need new tires and it will be good as new..

Replacing the MAF was easy...thank goodness for zip ties to hold the harness away from the ace pump..

Keep an eye on the zip ties - they dont last long with all those cold winter starts and then all the heat.

Ahhh...since the MAF fails so often..the zip ties will probably outlat the MAF... LOL
