2 questions from newbie

I just bought a 2002 LR Disco SE7 with 42K miles on it.
<pat, pat> - patting myself on the back !!!

1. When I bought it, the air conditioning display used to show the temperatures in Fahrenheit. After I gave the landy for a professional interior detailing yesterday, they must have pressed something, and now the temp. display is in Centigrade, and I can't seem to get it back to F. I am in the USA and centigrade is not what I am used to.

Question is, how can I get it back to display in Fahrenheit ? Looked at the manual and didn't find anything.

2. My 2 front tires are not so good, so I am thinking of getting replacements. I'm thinking of changing all 4. What tires are most suitable for Discos ? I am looking for all-season tires, which will also allow me to do a bit of off-roading (not going over boulders kind, but something easier), have good snow traction (live in New Jersey) and good dry-road driving. The OEM Goodyear Wranglers don't seem to have good ratings in consumer forums. I have been thinking about Michelin Cross Terrain ($149 each), Michelin LTX M/S ($125 each), Pirelli Scorpion STR ($140 each). Of these, which is recommended, or is there any other recommendation, if possibly a cheaper option ?

Thanks for your responses.

1. no idea, but let me know when you find out.. I want to fool with my friends when they get in the car.. "oh, its a british car.. they are a bit quirky"

2. go with the BFGoodrich AT/KOs 255/70/16 [assuming your have 16" tires].. they are great on road, pretty good offroad.. good in the snow [if we ever get any] .. they fit on the D2 without a problem.. and not all too expensive.. after tax and everything, i ended up paying ~150 a wheel to get it mounted and balanced.

Where in NJ are you from?

First of all search on google what a series Landrover is - it is not a discovery.

(1) Learn to use the centigrade/celcius system - it will allow you to catch up with the rest of the world in at least one area of measurement. Other than that RTFM.

(2) Goodyear MTR

Guess I have to live with the centigrade system for now and keep calculating (F-32)*5/9 everytime I turn on the AC.

The tires currently loaded on my Disco are 255/55/16 Goodyear Wrangler. So, no problem changing the aspect ratio to 70 ?

I live in Carteret, NJ.

Saw your pics. Awesome. Did you do all these with the BFGoodrich AT/KOs 255/70/16 ?

255x55x16? Are you sure its not 255x65x16? Thats the stock tire size.. no problems at all running 255/70/16's on mine.. never had any rubbing or anything.. you can find tire info here. Yeah, i wheel with the AT/KOs and they are fine

OK, I'm blind. But now that I have rechecked the tire size, I see the tires mounted are 255/55/18 Goodyear Wrangler HPs.

This means the rim-size is 18 inches. I don;t think I can use 16 inch tires, can I ? So the BFGoodrich AT KO is out of question.

Any other suggestions ?

very confused  here.

LostInBoston runs 285/65/18 bfg AT/KO's on his DII .. he has a 3" lift though..

Check these threads:

http://discoweb.org/forums/showthread.php?t=4601

You could also always just buy 16" rims and sell those 18"s .. or even see if you can trade someone straight up for them.. There are a lot more tire sizes available for 16" wheels.

Nah !!! Decided to stay with current 18-inch rims. Finally settled on the Yokahama Geolandar H/T-s G052 size: 255/55/18. These have pretty good reviews in Tirerack.com. Ordered yesterday. Already arrived at my local installer today. Mounting them tomorrow.

Degrees

On the heater/ac panel,( not looking now but where 5/6 buttons are in a row) hold down the left and right button at the same time, C and F flash up and then F, let go.

OEM tires were probably Michelins, but what you bought should be fine. Call the dealer, they can walk you throught the Celsius thing, my wife did it for hers after some cleaning and she fixed it.
And she cannot fix ANYTHING.

Crazy Fish, Thanks. I will try out the C&F toggle suggested by you.

Ryan, my Disco is the same color as yours. BTW, what do you call this color ? Pewter or just Gold ? Will try to get some pics and post here.

It's actually called "White Gold" .. but if I'm at a garage or something and have to identify it, i call it tan :)
