Hello,
There is a lot of info on ham radios and such on the site, but I am looking for a set of "walkie talkies" for my 6 year old to use around the house and around the barn/woods. We live in a very rural, wooded, hilly area of Connecticut. Looking for something easy to use and durable. I have no clue and have just started to research options and would appreciate any input...... thanks in advance.....

Just be sure your little ones can push the button to talk. Some of them are kind of hard to press in all the way. I've got a set of two-way radios, and my 3 year old can't quite hold the button down all the way, which makes conversation kind of annoying for my 5 year old.

These may be a little more than what you want to spend but I don't think you could go wrong with them.

I have those and they are great. I have one in the house and my son takes one with him when he is out roaming the neighborhood with his friends. We use it as a check in and he lets me know when he is going to a different friends house.

I give my 5 year old a portable HAM radio. It allows him to be in another state and still be in contact with me. Getting him to pass his exam before he was potty trained was the hard part.

frs/gmrs radios are cheap. get one with a charging cradle so it's easier to charge.
