2000 140k miles fuel problems..

Driving home from the gorge today...looked down and my fuel gage was reading empty which i know was not the case. a few seconds later i found myself rolling to a stop on the side of I64. it started back once but ran rough.
So im thinking fuel pump...anyone have any thoughts?
Should i buy a new one from AB or rovers north? anyone have a cross reference on a cheaper pump from nappa? Buy a good used one from will tillery?
Any thoughts would be great.

Is the fuel leaking out somewhere? If the gauge is wrong that's one thing but if the gauge shows empty and the truck dies thats another....weird.

ive seen a pump die and read empty too. even when not empty.
