Motorcycles cost fairly little, maybe look around for one that you can pay cash for or used at a dealer with financing. The mpg will be incredible and you'd still have the disco if you can't deal with the rain some days. $2000 -$4000 will get you a sweet bmw like an R90/6 in good shape - ready to ride. I used one as my only transportation during 1994-1998 including 9 round trips to Chicago from NC. Only had one trip interupting failure that could have been avoided with better attention to preventative maintenance.

I don't think that it makes sense to spend thousands on a motorbike to save hundreds in fuel.

$5000 i might think about it :)

as for the STi, you should get a WRX wagon & mod it ;)
It'll be a little less on insurance and faster than stock :D

here's a pic of mine.

If it allows him to keep the Disco then it makes more sense than the original plan. It also is the cheapest way to ad some fun factor. It's not only about saving some $ on fuel.

If said bike only got 50mpg vs the disco's 10, and the bike is only used 100 mi/wk for work commutes alone, this saves at least $800/yr. Much more if you toss in a few trips to Boone. An SV650 is an awesome fun twin - great for the track too.

I had all three at pne point... 900rr making about 160hp, the Sti, and the Disco. Here's my viewpoint:

The cheapest car you can buy is one you already own. There is no way to "save money" buy buying an additional car.

The bike its great to zoom around on but I might think twice about it being my ONLY transport.

The STi is a cop magnet, expensive to own and insure and really not all that much fun.

The Disco was a good 2nd car to haul around stuff and have grown to be my only transport. I sold off the STi and kept the bike in the garage all winter...

If you really want to save money trade you truck for cheap and use the extra cash to pay for gas.

and to be the devil, the disco will work great to trailer a track prepped bike to VIR for more fun you can have anywhere on the streets. =)

VIR is an out and back day trip from Raleigh being only 90 minutes away even while towing. It's also a nicer track for bikes when set up as north course.

Reed, do what I did. Sell the rover and get an FJ80. You can have the same amount of fun and you'll recoup some of your gas costs in the lower cost of maintenance. You can even get one with front/rear locker stock.

It's happening dude.. Time to move on. I won't leave the Rover family forever.
We all know you can't own just one rover in a lifetime..

Joel you know you need a D2 to add to the collection.
It would look real good in your backyard!!
