Been looking a couple of months for my first Disco - Found a great 2000 model in Vegas I had to pass on - logistics just didn't make sense for the purchase....I've found another - '00 model with 130K miles. Planning to test drive/check it out on Sunday - My biggest concern is the head gaskets have not been replaced yet - current owner has owned for 4 years, and 'says' it has never run hot on him or had an issue that would lead him to believe the head gaskets are in bad shape or blown. I've been doing my research on what to look for under the hood and with the engine not running and running to possibly determine if the head gaskets are bad. He has replaced the power steering pump, water pump, and Mass Air Flow Sensor recently.

He is running Dex Cool still. What is the thought on the Dex Cool vs. the typical green coolant? From what I've seen, there are mixed opinions on it - some say the Dex Cool leads to 'mud' and sludge in the system - I'm thinking they aren't changing it as they should...Most recommendations are to convert to the typical green coolant and get away from the Dex Cool. Others have had not problems with Dex Cool and are fine with it...Thoughts, Suggestions?

He has added the CDL and converted to an '04 SLABS ECU with the CDL. Interior and exterior of the truck appear to be in good shape - His asking price is $5,500. $5,500 seems high to me for a '00 DII - but with the CDL and SLABS ECU swap, the full Baja Rack on the roof, and he has approx. $1,500 worth of spare/extra parts he has collected, the price doesn't seem too terribly bad given I would plan to add the CDL anyway, and a roof rack down the road....He has told me the A/C is not working and thinks it just needs a recharge, but if it 'only needs a recharge' the refrigerant is leaking out somewhere which will require a repair/replacement of something else eventually, if not now. Everything else is working (door locks, sun roofs (no sunroof leaks, yet), no issues with 3 Amigos, garage kept....

New to the site, and 'thanks' to a buddy that took me with him to URE 12 in NC last October, hooked on Land Rovers. I understand it can be a VERY love/hate relationship - almost looking forward to purchasing my first one like I look forward to going to the dentist....

Any suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated, I think! Thanks!

I'm local if you need me to look. I know the truck. He's on LRF. Go on there you can see his thread history to look at his past issues with the truck. FYI he told me he'd take 5k. He seemed like a straight up guy

I equate my affinity of Land Rovers to being in a really bad relationship with a drop dead gorgeous woman. You know you should get out but keep hoping she'll change for the better. 2 1/2 decades later and I'm still caught up in it.

Thank you Shiftonthefly1 - The Epsom Green in Vegas has been sold now - Thank you for the offer to check it out - I spoke with the PO several times when I was seriously considering it - he had good records and with the maintenance performed and upgrades, it seemed like a good vehicle. Logistics (me getting to NV and back, shipping the Disco back to NC) turned the $5k-$5,500 truck into a $7k+ 'investment' - Just couldn't make that make sense for me.

I picked up the 2000 DII over the weekend. Drove it from Johnson City, TN back to Raleigh, NC on Sunday - no issues, thank goodness. Needs a little TLC, and I am planning to change fluids/filters in the next few weeks to get a good baseline.

I thought I stumbled across an excellent 'baseline checklist' on here last week sometime - should have printed it off when I came a across it - unable to find it now. I believe it was a 'Sticky' for the checklist that was mentioned in the thread I stumbled across it in. Any help in finding it would appreciated!

Hey there- how does it look now that you got it home? I'm looking at a couple right now myself...
