2001 D2 coolant leak

I have coolant leak on a 2001 D2. It appears to be coming from the left head where it meets the block. Is it the head gasket? or could there be something above the head causing the leak? It leaks one drop of coolant every 2 minutes or so, when the engine is running.

I appreciate any input that can help me locate this leak, I've tried a search.

Thanks,
Claudio

we'll see what the real experts say, but your throttle body is a candidate ...

There must be something going around, yours is like the 6th or 7th one on here in the 2000-2002 range besides mine where the complaint of coolant leak. definately look to the throtle body warming gasket and hoses. Be very aware..my indescretion cost me dearly!

Thanks very much for your reply. I here what you're saying. My wife drives it and luckly she stopped and called me when she noticed it was starting to overheat.

Thanks,
Claudio

This seems to be a very common issue, there was a throttle body gasket that causes many problems. Also common is a leak from the coolant line near the rearmost driver's side outside corner of the head/block that leaks down onto the exhaust/catalytic converter to evaporate. I had the later show up about 8-9 months ago. I put in half of a small bottle of Bars Stop Leak and it stopped the leak. Mine was small (1/2" of coolant out of the tank every two weeks).

If it's more than a little you might want to consider saving for a head gasket/valve job trip.

I hope it's the coolant line. Thanks Dan for your reply.

i'll bet its the throttle body heater plate. I had this problem and until it got bad enough to drip while I was looking at it, I couldn't find the leak.

2001 disco w/ 70k miles -- throttle body gasket last month... I'm still leaking a bit, gotta narrow it down.

As a follow up, the additional leaking did end up being my head gaskets... THANKFULLY covered under my extended warranty...

check around the two hoses coming from the throttle body assembly. The part the hoses go into is the pre-heater. The unit itelf is likely fine, but the gasket is usually suspect. Altlantic British has the heater and gasket kit for $15. If you have some time, the part is easy to replace. Just be cautious not to get coolant all over your engine.
