Getting ready to do the head gaskets on my 2001 Disco SE7: I have purchased new head bolts, and a gasket set, downloaded and familiarized myself with the rave manual, and lastly found a machine shop that can resurface the heads. So now I just want to get a heads up from the disco web community on anything that I might be missing or any surprises to expect?

I did mine a few years back oon my '03, I think the only difference is you don't have the SAI tubes. Otherwise here is my thread, hope it helps.

My advice is to TAKE IT SLOW. MY experience is that whenever I do any mechanical work in a hurry I always screw up. Take your time, mark every thing you remove, take lots of pictures along the way. That saved my rear a few times.

Other than that be careful with the head bolts on Drivers side near firewall. Follow the head bolt tighten sequence when reassembling.

Take your time, go slow and meticulous.

Good luck!

Awesome guys thanks for the response, I started last week and have pulled everything off lots of picks, marked stuff with tape, and put eveything in labeled plastic bags. Just picked up the heads from the machinist so will start to re-assemble tonight....fingers crossed.

After the first 15lbs sequence on the heads, mark the bolts on top with a line. That will help with the next two stages of 90 degree torqes.. 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock to 6 o'clock if that makes sense.
