Just to clear up some misconceptions the person that made the $1000. to $1500. or less offer was DCarr, not Will. I felt then and feel now that an offer like that for a 2001 clean rover with a lift and a roof rack is way low and out of line. But I see that quite a bit here on the forum, I apologized to Will as I misread his comments. On to the couple of idiots that want to use beyond vulgar language and slam me and my business they can taking a flying leap, I could care less.

How much are you willing to pay for a non running truck? This is what you do right? Fix non runners to sell?
Not trying to slam you, just wondering.

I'm no different from anyone else, I try to make the best possible buy. But I do take into consideration that accessories do make a truck worth more as I get calls all the time for racks, bumpers, lifts, etc. If that rover was here I would not hesitate to pay $2000. to $2500. if it was exceptionally clean as is because I know I could recoup my money if I ended up parting it out. What I would probably end up doing is replace the engine with a used one after replacing the head and oil pan gaskets, then ask $5000. for a nice Rover. I sell them on a regular basis and folks are glad to buy them, I just hope the fuel prices don't weaken the market any worse than it is now, 3 years ago I could get $8000. for a nice 8 year old Disco. as Bob Dylan sang " THE TIMES THEY ARE A CHANGING" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_oJPnSaPlQ

So you would pay $2,000 to $2,500 for a junk truck, and then dump another $1,100 (minimum) into a freshened up 4.0L, and then list the truck for sale at $5,000?

I think you better revisit your business model. You're not making shit.

Calling out someone like Tillery and posting that he has "larceny in your hearts" is a joke. Tillery has been here for 10-years buying, selling, and offering help to others on this site. Yes, he runs a business and he's in it to make money just like the others. But Tillery, hands down, is the very best parts resource in the U.S.A. for Land Rover parts, both genuine and aftermarket, or used parts. You're not going to beat his prices for what you get. He's an asset to the community and treats his customers fairly. It's a far fetched comment to claim Tillery is out to rip someone else off. If you feel his comments were out of line or misleading, please explain. But if you feel this guy selling a truck at a great deal, buy it an let YOUR wife drive it daily.

I hate to admit it but I also agree with Dan on this one. Will Tillery is a pleasure to buy parts and rovers from.

I flew half way across the country to buy my Hunter from Will, that I found advertised here on Dweb by him. 6 pictures and a few phone calls with Will and I was on a plane. He had me picked up from the Airport and took a fair amount of time showing me the truck which was well described and as promised on the phone. He threw in a few freebies and a spare set of rims and I started a cross country drive home to Illinois. I completed that without drama.

Will is a true pleasure to deal with. He is a seller I wouldn't hesitate to fly back across country and buy a truck from based only on his word, in the future. His price was excellent, his service was above and beyond for a low cost RRC. 9 months later and I'm still happy as can be with my purchase, I love my Hunter.

So trucks sell all the time on here even at asking price.

and Will along with several people have helped me and I appreciate these folks. This is a tough place to buy/sell if you dont know your costs/prices.

Good luck to all, best wishes to those who are in it for the rovers.

Wow, I usually stay out of these beat downs when people say stupid things, but you decided to drag me back into this.

You need to go back and re-read what I wrote. I wasn't making an offer. I was pointing out that the asking price ($3k) was a little high for a truck that at best needs a head gasket, or by the seller's assessment might need an engine (slipped liner).

Do you think we're stupid? You weren't talking about me 5 days after my post. Now, stop trying to deflect blame for your poorly written smart-ass reply by pretending you were talking about someone else (me) just because you got slammed for being a jerk to Will.

Just because you think you can find a buyer at a higher price, that doesn't mean the truck is worth it. It only means you found someone dumb enough to let you rip them off.

Had you not made the statement that the truck was worth maybe $1000. to $1500. or less this chain of events would have never taken place. You are the key to the ignorance.

Chapman, making $2000. on a Rover is plenty. Not trying to get rich, just enjoy playing with them. I buy them from the insurance auctions totaled out just so I can get some decent engines, those will bring anywhere from $1000. to $2000. Oh by the way, enjoy the song I chose for you! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=komFcq3TDSY&feature=related

That's the thing, you're not "making" $2,000. You're running a business to make money, you're not doing this for fun or for pleasure.

If you're damn good, you can replace these engines in 8-hours. That's hauling ass by yourself. That means the phone is not ringing and customers are not stopping by. But it has been done in 8-hours. At $80hr, that's $640.00 to swap an engine. This does not count oil, antifreeze, spark plugs, hoses, etc... that are pretty much necessary when doing an engine swap.

I have a pretty good feeling you're not clearing $1,000 per truck. At that rate, you'd have to do 4 or 5 projects like this to make any money, and even then you're still not making "good money". All you're doing is working yourself to death. It's not worth fucking with for $1,000. You can drop the transmission and transfercase and make more than $1,000 and it's a lot less work.

Nice. Ignorance?

People buy these trucks for $1000-1500 with bad motors and blown head gaskets all the time. The fact that you don't know this just reinforces my growing belief that you can't read...there's ignorance for you.

If you're paying more than that at an insurance auction then I'm sure the Ins Co auction reps love you when they're laughing all the way to the bank to deposit your money.

Now, please continue to respond to this thread as you have been...I'm absolutely certain it will paint a vivid picture for any potential future customers who Google you in the future.

Land Rovers are not my business, it's my hobby and I enjoy what we are doing. Not in it to make a living, just having fun. My business is equipment rental, when the weather is bad rentals suffer so we have time to play with rovers, it's an expensive hobby as everyone knows so when I sell a part or two or a used Rover it takes a little sting out of it.

There will be no more posts concerning this, it's a very sad time in my life as I just learned that my ex neighbor and friend of 20 years in Texas just lost his wife to cancer. I lost my brother last April 1 to the same disease and not a day goes by that I don't miss or think of him. Please pray for Lloyd and his family, and may God be with your friends and family that are fighting this disease also. thanks

A friend loses his wife of 35 years, takes early retirement and stays by her side for the past 9 months 24/7 being her caregiver, I lose my brother of 61 years after his courageous battle with this horrific disease and you have the nerve and insensitivity to say I'm playing the "Cancer card"??? You must be proud! I try my best to care for my fellow man but after that comment I wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire. That goes for anyone that agrees with this idiot.

Yes, you re a douchebag.
Why you felt the need to bring that up in a thread about selling a truck is beyond me.
Are we to pity you? Maybe feel bad about doubting your intentions?
What did you expect to gain from this? Justification for what you posted? Respect?
No, we think you are a douchebag for playing the cancer card. That is exactly what you did.
Maybe everybody needs to run down to Selma and buy a truck from you because you played the cancer card.
Fucking prick.
