Hello Everyone I'm a newbie,

I have a 2002 Land rover Discovery II SE and I am having problems with restarts. The engine will not restart after I drive it and last time I drove it the engine just die on me and it has never done that before. I have it at a local well know shop but they can not seem to pin down the source of the problem. I need a good schematic of the starting system so as to due proper troubleshoot, with out it and I will be shooting from the hip. Any help would be greatly appreciated , hopefully in the form of a pdf. hint hint.

Again thanks other than the last past weeks the LE has been a great family SUV and all around great vehicle.

Have you checked the crank position sensor? Mine had a similar problem where is would just die while driving and then not restart. Ended up being a bad crank position sensor.

I wouldn't put much time into anything related to starting, if it has died while driving. Crank sensor would be an excellent place to start. Even if there is no physical damage, these hall-type sensors are known to fail internally, based on temperature. That's why a warm engine won't restart. Before you touch anything, though, check your engine codes. Go to Autozone if you don't have your own code reader.

Is your check engine light on? You should get an OBDII code ready (cheap like $50) and it can read your codes and tell you pending ones.

I had a crank shaft position sensor failure as well. Its not the first thing that comes to mind when the car won't start but its a cheap part. You might also want to look into plugs and wires, fuel injectors, and the fuel pump.

Hello fellow Disco members,
We appreciate your responses and thanks you all for your inputs. Our local shop informed us this may be the problem also so we will take your advice and start with crank sensor. We'll let you know how it turns out.

Thanks for all the replies,
It was the crank sensor, all seems to be running well now all I have to do is get a good manual or two, hopefully one with some schematics.

Again thanks
