2003 Discovery II SE - $1500

Has 122,721 miles

The Good:
  • The truck is in overall great shape... the body has a couple of small dings, but if given a wax, it'll look great. Interior is in great shape as well.

The Bad:
  • The engine has a ticking noise that occurs when the truck hits it's regular operating temperature.. it gets louder with acceleration.
  • I did replace the cats on it.. and in doing so, I wasn't able to get the flange to the exhaust to line up properly, so I put some High Heat JB Weld there that seems to be holding.. it's an easy fix at an exhaust place though.
  • The previous owner broke off the key into the ignition, so they removed the ignition and are using a home-made key to start it. The replacement parts for this is approx. $150 used on Ebay.. I just never got around to replacing it. I have the original key fob with the broken key though.
  • Battery may be dead... I have a blue-top Optima in there that died from not being used.. it starts right up after I jump it... I have a battery charger on it now though, not sure if it'll retain the charge though
  • Front crossmember needs to be replaced.. I had to cut it away to get the Y-pipe down.. I've removed this crossmember without concern in all my past discos that have been lifted anyways so the driveshaft doesnt hit it

The Ugly
  • The front bumper is cracked in the middle, but the black bumper covers are intact.. that will make replacing it much easier as you can use a base bumper from any model/color.
  • Rear bumper has a small crack in it as well
  • Surface Rust -- Being a northeast truck, the frame has surface rust on it.. I poked at a few spots and there was no indication it was anything more than that.

The truck is being sold AS-IS, WHERE-IS. I bought this truck as a project truck, and with also owning an LR3 and a Series IIa rebuild, along with a baby, I just don't have the time necessary to fix it. I would personally recommend towing it as I have only driven it around the block.. and while it drove fine, I wouldn't trust it for driving any distance.

Asking price is now $1,500.00 (was $2k) and it's located in West Caldwell, NJ.

It's pouring outside today (first time in like a month here), so I will try to get some more pictures tomorrow when it clears. Anything specific you'd like to see?

Engine compartment.
Rear cargo area
door bottoms
seat (front)

I hear ya about the rain... we're getting a bunch too...
Much needed rain, fresh mud !

I added the requested pics (and a couple more here):

I forgot you asked for the door bottoms so I can go get those later if you want, but that's not a rust area on the D2's so there shouldn't be anything remarkable on them. Overall the interior of the truck is in great condition for it's age/mileage.. if you were to detail/clean it up, it would look great.

The rims in the trunk are not included (they aren't mine).

Still working on "details" on my end. 3 hours roughly one way. Begging friends for trailer and "begging" Mrs for $.
If the rims that are on the truck don't come with it, what is the deal wheel and tire wise? or should I bring wheels?

I am swapping out the existing tires/rims that are on the truck and putting on a set of 19" LR3 rims & tires I have. I'll try to get some updated pics when I get a chance.

Price drop to $1500

I towed it to my house from the guy I bought it from. Allegedly it was driven daily with the noise though, but I have no way to know if/when something may happen. Also, you'd probably want to properly address the exhaust and battery before a trip. Past that, I just haven't driven it..

So to err on the side of safety, I'd recommend towing it and then sorting it out a bit. Penske/uhaul trailers aren't expensive for a day trip.

Got the trailer (that was easy) getting the truck to tow it has been a PITA.
That and getting the time, work has been crazy the past three weeks.

Here's an updated pic with the LR3 19" rims on it. It comes with a matching spare rim, but the tire on it isn't usable. Either buy this truck and rebuild the engine/replace (Drillbit is selling one for a great price) or use it for parts (interior is in amazing shape). Open to offers.. going to EBay soon.

Going to try ebay again this weekend (last 2 times, the bidder never contacted me afterwards). This truck would be great for parts or to fix the engine and have a nice shape D2. Open to offers... I want to get rid of it before winter comes.
