So I just put a 2 inch coil spacer lift on my D2 and I was wondering if I could also put the shorter spring perches from a D1 for a little more lift? I also read about rear springs in the front... how does that work and why would I do it? Its not hard work just time consuming.

The spring perches from the D1 will give you a bit more lift.
I think you'll find putting rear springs in the front will give a shit ride.

Retaining springs isn't magic. A piece of 1/4" flat stock with a couple holes will work. If you want to get fancy use the Ballistic Fab retainers.

but you have to retrain the springs on the bottom with the D1 seat
You sure about that? I dont think Ive heard of anyone having issues with just D1 seats.

Another question is what shocks are you running? If they are the stock ones, than you really wont need retainers.
