I have a 2004 Land Rover Discovery that started acting up tonight.

As I understand it, this is the year that had the Range Rover engine in it.

It started as a stumble at about 10 mph in traffic.
I noticed the check engine light come on at that time.

I pulled over, it began to run normally, or so I thought. Check engine light came back on once I got going again, this time it was blinking. Which I took to mean BAD news. So I pulled over and shut it off. Turned it back on and limped it home. It wouldn't stall out completely, but ran under great duress, especially up hill, really really shaking and struggling. The check engine light was alternating between steady and flashing the entire time, and remains on.

I called a local mechanic but I had to post this to get some insight.

No fluids under the vehicle. I think this engine leaks oil a bit but the levels seemed ok.

I'd appreciate anyone help.

Thank you

Sounds like cylinder misfire, but without reading the CEL codes its hard to tell.
Could be spark plugs, and or wires
Mass air flow sensor.
Could be fuel related as well.

First step is to read the codes and go from there.

Yup, if your coolant bottle wasnt erupting its hopefully ignition related. Could be as simple as a plug wire going out.
