200TDI fuel economy?

I keep seeing 28mpg thrown around as the economy on a 200TDI in a 90 or 110, but I have yet to see if it is referring to Imperial or American gallons.... and since there's about a 20% difference I was wondering if someone could clarify that.

the 110 gets about 3 mpg less than a 90. The 90's are supposed to get around 28 mpg based on an SAE gallon and the 110 around 25.
The brits get over 30 with the imperial gallon.
I'm about to put a Defender 200 tdi setup in my truck (slow container ship is driving me crazy). I have had a disco 200 tdi powered 110, and a 300 tdi 110, I really like to 200 tdi engine. I had been told that disco 200 tdi engine wouldn't work in a lhd truck. There is a fellow on the d90 source in NH that has installed one in his NAS 90. He had to make a custom steering shaft from the the column to the steering box in order to clear the turbo/downpipe. He's now getting well over 300 miles to a tank now in his 90 (the best I ever got with my NAS 90 was 235).

Thanks, just wanted to know what the 'stated' ones were in :), I'm planning on adding a couple more tanks as it is since I'll be running on B100 and will need to add heaters and enough capacity to drive from home to places like Seneca Rocks and the Gunks on a regular basis without having to refuel :)

I get 24 with a Daihatsu 2.8 Td in an 88 coiler on 33s. Since it is a larger displacement than a 200 Tdi, the 25-28 mpg figure for a US gallon seems plausible.

I used to climb the Gunks all the time in college, I just noticed my dog eared Gunks guide on the bookshelf this morning.

That's good to hear, I'll probably swap in something like a TDV6 later once there are aftermarket ECU's for them, right now it is just far too expensive an option. Since the vehicle has to be imported while 'stock' it's the 200TDI for now! and who knows perhaps it'll just get a larger intercooler and a bit of tuning and be great.

havn't gotten back into climbing due to numerous reasons (lol, age!), yet, when I'm home or at least weekends, it is my hiking area with the Labs.

only 20 minutes from the front door.

it really is a nice area although on some weekends very, very crowded with folks from NYC.

this is what my friend in Sao Paulo, Brasil did to his 200 in a '93 110 and it performed well.

his main problem with the engine came on our trip to Atacama desert in Chile.

the injector pump crapped out and he had to change it out during the trip.

So, driving home from Halifax after import I averaged about 8.1l/100km which works out to about 29M/USG or 35M/UKG. Not bad considering it was mostly at 75-85MPH in a vehicle shaped like a deformed brick. ;)
