Is this a bolt on conversion? Has anyone else done this? Do I need to change the gearing or anything else? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cool.

I think this is probably a question for Outer Limits.

that bbs has a lot of Australians who have all done this sort of thing time and again.

best of luck.

If I'm not mistaken the 200tdi is based on the 2.5 block. As I recall, the 2.5 had metric studs, but the bellhousing was the same. If you're thinking seriously about it, hit up Al Tocci at DAP. Provided you buy any parts you need from them.

Yes it is basically a bolt in conversion. The engine mounts SHOULD line up and the bellhousing is the same (although I have heard cases where one stud needs to be removed (so check you have the right numbers of studs and holes before commencing to bolt in. The only real modification is the timing case(injector pump wants to be where the battery is, so you either need to relocate the battery or raise it (and the battery tray) 3-4" higher.

Bear in mind that the SIII gearbox isn't very strong, so it may be a good idea to fit an R380 (or LT77) 5 speed at the same time - which will solve any gearing problems. Otherwise you will need to fit a high ratio T-case or an overdrive to have decent highway gearing.
