Chris, what are our opportunities to resupply on the trip? I'm guessing we'll drive through civilization once or twice? Helpful in planning food and of course beer.

We'll fill up on push-water in Blanding, which should get us down to Cal Black for a fill-up. We're never more than 20-30 miles from the paved road and we can always make a fuel run if we have to. I recommend bringing one or two fuel cans if you have them. With my two cans, I'll have 24 gallons total. I bring a couple of water cans as well.

The hardest thing to keep stocked up on may actually be firewood. We're a big group and we'll want a good fire if it's cold. Everyone should count on picking up at least a few bundles of firewood on the way in.

I'm bringing my liquor from Colorado. Can't count on those southern towns to have any of the good stuff. ;)

Word.
Not any of the good stuff, oftentimes it is naught at all.
A waiter in a brewery (!) in Moab turned down our request for beer on a Sunday, and told us that there wasn't a place in the country where we could buy alcohol on a Sunday night.
We had our ice teas, sprinted to the liquor store in Ridgway, Colorado, and a nice hippie old lady got us all stocked up.

How's truck preparation coming along, guys?

My LT230 is being rebuilt and should be ready in another week or two. Ordered some new seats from RN and they'll be here this week.

Is anybody bringing a spare alternator for a v-belt GEMS motor? I have some good spares like a starter and fuel pump and a bunch of driveline stuff but no alternator spare.

Save us the hazards? We're going to be sitting on our camp chairs, drinking beer and watching you wrench. ;)

On Saturday I washed the mud off from my last run up the back road to Crown King.

Still have the sliders sitting in a box, got to get on that. Damn front passenger window regulator crapped out again, got to get on that. Gotta get the damn thing into the shop for the 3-amigos exorcism too. Better get off my ass because I'll be out of town the last half of March.

I've been developing an annoying "thunk" from somewhere in the drivetrain. It's not an all-the-time thing, and I have a hard time replicating it. Seems to be something that occurs mostly when coming to a stop. I know Chris had a thunk that turned out to be a t-case. My transfer case came from Ashcroft less than 5000 miles ago, so I'm hoping that's not it.

Someone suggested the rear A-arm ball joint.......what's a good way to check that?

Not sure if yanking on the A-arm will reveal a bad ball joint but a good start would be to inspect the rubber boot. I noticed that my boot was split open a couple of years ago and that's what motivated me to replace it. You'll need a hydraulic press to put a new one in.

Keep the transfer case in gear and transmission - in park; lay down under the truck and have someone manually push/pull the truck so the slack is taken up from the driveline on the way back and forth.

Chances are high that you will see the A-arm ball joint movement; another thing to look at is rear pinion angle. I noticed that my A-arm ball joint was shot by seeing the pinion jerk up/down when the slack was taken up - too bad it was on the side of the road in Colorado.

Thanks, Peter. I will check it out tonight.
