2012 - The End?

just curious what some of you guys think after reading some of your posts in the General section.

What do you think about the notion of December 21, 2012 being the end of days, great enlightenment, or 26,000 year earth wobble?

i think this will be interesting.

i don't think anything will happen, but then again, i'm not superstitious and don't believe in that sort of thing. it's all just aztec hype, i'm tellin' ya.

coincidence. they did predict a lot of our events, like the World wars, if i'm not mistaken.

perhaps their prediction will cause some rogue country or military to nuke the world on that day.

i just choose to not worry about it. i suppose we'll see on dec. 21 2012 if anything happens, now won't we?

Now I need a sign "The End is Near" to walk around with. Frankly I think it's a bunch of superstitious BS with no basis. Besides, if it were going to end then like there's anything anyone can do about it anyway? So, I'll be like Alfred E. Neuman "What me worry?"

just curious what you guys would say.

there is a science to it though. the mayan's calculated lunar eclipses to within 33 seconds - eclipses 1000 years after their demise. they show time stopping. you have to admit, for their calculations and astronomy to never have been wrong, it does make 2012 something to look forward to. if anything, simply to see if they are right.

1000 years after their demise
If that civilization couldn't stick around to see their prophecies come true.. well...

their calculations and astronomy to never have been wrong
They were off by 33 seconds.

Actually the Mayan system of beliefs couldn't fathom time after that specific date. It wasn't based on anything other than that is when they believed the world would end. Nothing more, nothing less. Their calendar was too rigid.

Look forward too? And if they right, youre never going to know it because you'll be gone. And which timezone goes first?

no concept of infinity?

Did you know that all you guys cease to exist every night when I goto sleep?
poof.
Then you're all back again in the morning when I wake up.

It's kinda strange, almost as if you don't cease to exist while I'm sleeping, but that's just crazy talk.

all good opinions.

remember though, the Mayan's were not prophets claiming their "predictions" were of divine charge. they created the calendar we use today, essentially. the prediction is that the Great Cycle ends, thats it. they do not claim an apocalyptic reign of the sovereign over evil. it simply states that "history" stops. the sun is perfectly alligned with the plane of the solar system and may cause polar shifts, abrupt climate change, mega natural disasters, or nothing. just keep the science in mind when forming your opinions. i like where this is going though. (the thread that is)

Its the end of the world as we know it...and I feel fine!

That was the last song played before Midnight on a radio station in Las Vegas. The first one of the new millenium was Pearl Jam's "Alive". :D

It's really no big deal. Our solar system "cluster" passes around and out of the Pisces region into the Aquarius region. Everybody knows about it. Why do you think everybody has that "Jesus Fish" on their cars?
