A friend of mine has recently acquired a 2013 Sport HSE. I know exactly nothing about these trucks so I figured I would put this before the brain trust: Anything in particular I should tell him to watch for or be aware of? ~45k miles. Thanks

You might also try asking on rangerovers.net if you haven't already. Us cheapskates on Discoweb don't drive the new vehicles much although you might get suggestions from the 2-3 guys that work on the new models professionally.

Water pump for sure. Then everything mentioned on the LR3 buying threads because its built on the same platform. He has a little warranty left so pick its nose for him.

Might just be because they wanted the new body style sport. These people that drive new Range Rovers can get in and out of them for almost no reason at all. I had a 2015 sport last month that needed a door latch cause it wouldn't latch closed. We would have had the door latch the next morning at about 10AM. Guy said no fuck that I can't wait for that and traded it on the spot for a 2016. It was a warranty repair, wasn't going to cost him a thing, just wasn't going to wait and drive our free loaner for a day.

I like the 13 sports but not as much as I like the new one.
