The Conclave I attended was a great time with the people I hung out with, the others, not so much.
They were just very unfriendly and short. Nobody waving, no one responding when you talked to them. In a word (or two) ass holes.
It's a shame what has happened to the Rover community in 10 short years.
Too many cliques or too many dicks?
Cue Erik's snarky response...:)

What a shame you felt that way, because , the guys who put the sweat, the money, to hold the event never gave you a reason to feel that way, unless you are calling those guys the assholes, shouldn't deprive you from attending an event to have fun

Camp V was the bomb. Thats how a rover event should be. I guess we were just to low class for the d90 crowd because we weren't cooking filet mignon and lobster tails on our 15k overland trailer. Thats why rovers on the rocks is always a great time, it's to far for the d90 dickheads to drive.

There were plenty of people not having filet mignon, and some of " d90 dickheads " had a great time with you at other events... naahhhh that is not it

Rovers on the rocks is and will continue to be a good time because it is not an event. It's just a bunch of guys wheeling. That's the big difference between an event and wheeling. Rovers on the rocks does not need a return on investment.

ROI? man that is a good thing you do not make a living dealing with finances...

That's the difference between talking shit and dealing with shit. Hardly a difference in attending a Rover event.

Seriously? when the events that took place I could swear you said to me and I quote " Goose, I fucked up, do not know what came to me .... " explain to me how exactly that is DEALING WITH IT ?

BOTTOM LINE... it is a shame such a small community with limited availability to attend due to obligations, got separated for truly not valid reasons..

Sure, I fucked up. Far as I'm concerned the problem is solved, though.

But I said the exact same thing as Walter did the day after the event, too. You and I talked about this. I talked to Justin about this as well. So what Walter is saying still holds weight. Same with Widner - what Widner says is true also only he added in some sarcasm. The event was very segregated.

It's obvious this view is not limited to only three of us. You wouldn't miss three people from the event. But for some reason there is only one group of people coming to the event this year. Why is that? Is it because that group makes other groups feel unwelcome? You tell me.

Remember when you had all different groups coming to an event and they all camped as a group? But that did not stop them from wondering around different groups campsites. That was fun. That was 50% of the fun at the events. That did not happen at the 1st Conclave. You know as well as I do that never happened.

In fact, how many times did you make it back to Camp 5? I think you were invited back several times. I know you spent a lot of time at the main tent, but I don't think I ever remember you coming back to Camp 5. I don't think I ever saw Justin, either. Correct me if I'm wrong.

So what does that mean? I have a pretty good idea as to what it means but I'm not here to bash your event. I have not commented on this thread until now for a reason. I don't want you to think I'm trying to sabotage your event. I'm not. I love the Cove. I hope a Rover event does well at the Cove. I still can't think of a better place to hold a Rover event than the Cove.

If you want to hear what I think about the current event itself give me a call. Been a while since we talked anyway.

Goose,
It most definitely is a good thing I am not in finances. Time is money, time away from family is more money. If I spent time away from my family to organize an event knowing that no matter what or how I do it I will be criticized, your damn sure I would want a return on my investment.
I think you misunderstand what I infer by stating rovers on the rocks does not need a return on investment.
The first couple ROTR paid off for justin, I have spent a good amount of money, since the second ROTR, with justin due to the way he presented himself. He seemed like a straight up guy and wasn't the typical picnicker type rover enthusiast. Yes I'm sure he spent a good bit of time and money but from a business standpoint I think it has paid off for him. ROTR evolved into a wheeling trip not an event.

Regarding Conclave, I think you are quick to assume I am only chiming in to deter others interest. I'm not. I had a great time the first year. Got to see a lot of friends I rarely get to see. I also got a great cold shoulder from some others....EVEN before the Daniel incident. I'm also the first to admit that I have had a track record of presenting myself as an obnoxious asshole, so I understand the cold shoulder.

Like I said, I hope your time invested is rewarded with a great turn out.

In all honesty where is the sarcasm? I had a great time the first year and hope for a good turn out, for those organizing, this year.

It had nothing to do with the people who held the event and everything to do with the people who attended. You guys did a great job pulling it off, I know how much work you put in to it.

He didn't. I told Justin and Goose several times to stop down and visit because we had bangin bbq and a shitfaced hippy laying in the grass. You guys as well as others never stopped by. If it wasn't for Walters lasagna I would have cried alot more.

Sadly you are wrong ..... What a shame, that you make such statement and it is not true

But that is history, as the last event and the current event will soon be

You are correct I've spent most of the time at the Main Tent ( working ) , but I was at camp 5, ( not as often as I would have wanted to ) , but I've spent equal (minimal) amount of time at other Camps as well, then upon exhaustion, I sat on my camp site snoozing on my chair.
( where the Senior Citizens and Families with kids were sleeping , so was very easy to snooze ( specially when some of those southern concoctions were share .... even when certain Bald PITA wanted to argue about NASCAR @ 2:00 am :D )

Mike,

By now you know me well enough to know I don't make assumptions ( remember what assume makes wright? )

Again, the event was planned, executed with one vision in mind .. to mimic the old days, with certainly no reward other than a great time with friends we seldom see in other places.

BTW, I know there is no ill intend on your post ( in case you get bend out of shape *LOL* )

I went the first year and loved it. I met lots of new people while I was lost on the trails for hours.
I would have loved to talk to everyone but there is not enough time, but I will say everyone I did meet was very friendly.

Goose,Justin,Rick and names I don't know did a wonderful job.
I missed last year but will be there this year and can't wait!

Thanks guys for continuing the event, I know it's a ton of work.

At around 1am last year we couldn't figure out where we were on the map so we flipped a coin and descended pucker from the top. That was interesting...
