There are lots of confilcting stories on wether or not you can run 265/75/16's on a stock 2004 Disco. I am putting a 2" OME lift on my truck Saturday, but just with how scheduling etc. is working, I am probably going to have to install my new tires on Friday. (BFG All terrains). After the tires, I have about a 40 mile drive to get to where I am installing the lift. Mostly 2 lane highway type road.

Some threads say that the tires just won't fit, some say they will. About the only thing that every thread agrees on is that you get rubbing at full lock, and without the lift, there isn't much articulation. Does anyone have any specific info on that tire on an '04 G4, with no lift?

On the 04 you have to a just the bump stops or the tires will rub the radus arms.
That sould be the only thing you need to think about for driving on the road.
You say 2" now but you want 3" later. Good luck

I used to run 265's on an Disco II w/ OME suspension & had no issues other than at full turn of wheel against radius arms. W/ OME you'll be fine w/ 265's. The only problem you run into is w/ 265's w/ stock suspension (as per a previous thread) in which case you've just got too much tire for you suspension system.

I helped a friend put 265-75/16 tires on a stock 2001 D2. We had to do some minor cutting on the back of the front bumper and the trim inside the wheel well. But you can run them with a bit of rubbing without the cutting.

I know it will fit fine with the lift. What I am concerned about is driving the 40 miles with the new tires and no lift. Will I have a problem other than lock to lock turns? (In particular, the front bumper skirt)

I did the same thing, bigger tires before lift and drove with not problem (onroad). If its only 40 miles, no problem, just avoid turning the steering wheel to the stops cause the tire will rub onthe radius arm. Even witht he lift, you may need to adjust the steering stops to prevent rubbing ont he radial arm. Just use a spacer (washers work great).

Offroad is a different matter, any appreciable amount of articulatoin will cause rubbing without a lift.

if you plan on getting yer new rig offroad at all, I would reccomend the BFG Mud Terrains rather than the BFG AT's. They cost a little more but you will appreciate having them later.

I have 285/75/16's Mud Terrains on my 94 Defender, there a great tire. The only drawback is they don't wear evenly. (the outer tread shoulder tends to feather once they get down past 50%, but it's a pretty minor drawback)

The G4 is my wifes truck, and will be seeing more street than dirt. (but it will get out into the bush!) I am thinking the wear will be better on the AT's on the street, and should be pretty good for most offroading with the exception of any heavy mud.

It's been a tough choice to come up with somthing other than a Mud tire, that has a good strong sidewall and can run well at 20 PSI. A majority of the terrain around here is broken rock, washed out logging roads, light mud etc. Never had an issue with sidewalls getting cut up on 4 sets of BFG's on the Defender or my Landcruiser.

Hey Craig,
Post a pic! love to see.

I make it over the border every couple weeks to Bellingham to pick up parts etc. Some time in late May early June I'll be passing through to Portland to pick up a rack from NW Parts. Love to stop in and see your rig.

I'm headed down to NWP during the same time period to get my new front bumper, roofrack, and ladder. :-D

Here's a couple of pics

Hey Scott,

don't worry about the drive, you just can't go through a slalom course. I had to cram a set on a '01 D2 for a few days for a customer while we waited for his parts and it only rubbed the radius arms at real close to lock. You should be fine.

What do you guys think of a G4 Gallery on here? New thread coming shortly...

Here's how tight it will be with the front bumper. The dealer put these on the vehicle (same size as you're considering), and they regularly had this up on that Land Rover rock-hill thing. The wheels stuffed into the wells suprisingly well, though I'm no fool to mistake this for the real world off-road. They had already adjusted the steering. It rubs the black plastic on the front bumper slightly in reverse (wheel turned) sometimes, but does no harm. One of the rear tires had a very shallow cut in one of the outer nubs when I took delivery, so the dealer must have hit the body at some point puting it up on the display rocks. Freaks me out, though, not having a lift. I want a 2" lift in the front and SLS spacers in the rear.

Your drive home will be a breeze. I've gone over a few "city obstacles" with no problems. :D

For what its worth. I tried to put BFG At's, 265\75\16 on my 04 SE7 and they would just not fit what so ever. As soon as we dropped down off the lift they were touching the fender\front bumper. I would suspect any flex would damage the plastic from the smallest of pot holes. I don't know of any difference between the 04 G4 and the 04 SE 7. I would try and put the lift of first, if you can?

Well, for all the nay sayers....NAY! The 265/75/16's fit! Just minor rubbing at full lock . They sure make the truck look more like a truck. I'll post some pics later.

Tomorrow is the 2" lift, can't wait!!!

Ho, I borrowed a spare set of rims and tires that I'll leave in the back , just incase the SLS goes out on the way to the shop!! (LOL!)
