Sorry for another tire thread.

I have a DII with a 2" RTE lift. I shelved the 18" rims and run a set of Mirage wheels with 265 MT's. For some time I have been wanting to get some less aggresive tires for DD. Have a friend with a set of 285 BFG AT's that I can get off of him. Also found another set of 16" rims....These tires should fit and be fine for onroad use only, correct?

Thanks

I just installed the 2 inch rte lift last week and put 285/65/18 (18)BFG A/T on the hurricanes and it fits.
tight but it fits.i did some flexing on the beach this week and still no touchy.

so id say you would be fine with 16 inch 285/65/16 BFG

others with lift and tires

Thanks for the reply and the pics. Nice rig.

Does anyone else have the RTE 285 set with 16" rims?

Any other thoughts about problems with a 285/75/16's for DD?

I know a lot of people run them with a 3" lift but want to be sure they will be good with a RTE 2"....

Thanks

I'm new to the site and have found lots of great information. And so far one of the more amusing things I'm finding on the site is when someone who posts a topic regarding head gaskets or tires or CDl it starts off with an apology.

eg. Sorry ... dont attack me .... but I really need to ask this tire question. F'in hilarious

depends on the truck, but mine needed a 3" lift and new radius arms to keep them from rubbing. then gears to make up for all the lost power, while you have it apart might as well put in lockers, and don't forget the hd axles and d1 rear driveshaft.

I'm not sure why you would go bigger for the street tire (I know the AT is less aggessive). Why not get an AT that is a little smaller 245-75-16 and get a little better mileage and road manners - height/clearance shouldn't matter for the dd tire. The 245s are one of the larger sizes that will fit with a stock suspension but are taller than stock tires. The only other issue would be if they look out of place (too small) with your 2" lift - I don't know that one.

You're geared way too high for that size tire for a daily driver. You will hate life; especially going up highway inclines. I would say to stick with a 265/75/16 or 235/85/16.

That being said... can I buy them

Again, I have a buddy that took the 285's off of his DuraMax and they don't many miles on them and will get them for a really good deal. I had 245/75/16's on my truck when I installed the lift...it looked alright but a little small in my opinion...

He has an '03, the 4.6 makes up for that.

I've seen plenty of 2in. lifts with 285s and 255s and they've been fine (DIIs that is). Stock front bumpers may need minor trimming and there will be rubbing on the controls if you turn lock to lock but that's no problem. Especially with the 4.6 I'd think you'd be fine.
