3.6L Headers vs. 3.9L ?????

I am looking for a set of headers for my 3.9L V8 95 DI. From previous posts I have gathered that a lot of people are using Summit Racing ones. I called them though and they said they only have headers for a 3.6L. How can that be? What is everyone using? I have read previous posts and they do not answer my questions. I have found the Janspeed ones that would work and also have the O2 sensor treads but they are just so friggin' expensive. Does anyone know of any other brands that have the headers treaded for the O2 sensors? Or if it is possible to tread them myself?

All the help would be appreciated.

Yes this is what I have heard of everyone using. It says for a 3.5L V8, will it work for the 3.9L V8? Also is it possible to drill treads out for the O2 sensors with these?

Yes and yes.

3.5 is the same block and heads as a 3.9, just larger cylinder bore. You can easily get a hole into them and weld in an o2 bung.

I am doing this right now. Do yourself a favor and forego the Rover O2 sensors and buy some much cheaper ones and weld in bungs. You have to redrill and weld a bung on the Hedmans anyways, why not get a cheaper O2 in the process.

I already have practically brand new Rover O2 sensors that I got one HELL of a deal on, so I will be putting them in. What are you referring to as bungs? What are my options as far as inserting the O2 sensors?

Thanks for all the great input.

be ready to do alot of work. took us about 6 hours to get mine in. in addition to bungs, you have to heat and bend the pipes a little bit. they barely clear the steering, and you will more than likely have to do away with your knock sensor.

no, rovers use a smaller bung. can't remember the thread size but my exhaust shop says they have them so I expect others do too.

x2.

@RoverRideAlong: You might want to do some searching on here re: switching over to a more generic O2 sensor. There's been some talk on the issue of people drilling out for the larger bung and using Nissan and other substitutes. Might be a cheaper solution. Haven't checked D1 O2 prices in a while, but I remember them being pricey.

Best of luck and when you get to putting it in, post some pics for all to envy!

The HH from Summit Racing are made for RHD vehicles. You can make them fit on a Disco by bending the pipes a bit to clear the steering shaft. The D90 folks use a washer on the engine mount to clear the steering shaft.

We've installed the HH on a few LRs (D90 & RR) and had to modify them slightly.

The flanges on the HH are pretty thin and you have to paint them (POR15, ceramic coating or Jet-Hot) because they rust very quickly. They also hang down farther than the Janspeed headers.

Just my experience.
