Hoping someone can help me sort this out… I have a 94 disco 1 which we swapped with a 300tdi from a 95 defender. Recently have but on a new high flow head from turners after the old one was cracked and new mls head gasket and gasket kit… New valve caps, pushrods, were also fitted and I have adjustment the lash to spec over and over and it’s right on but I have this weird intake noise??

https://youtube.com/shorts/funrYRAHUVg?feature=share

Has a mantec snorkel, in-line air filter, silicone hoses fuel turned up a lil
Oil pressure good… Pls help!

Sounds similar to this !

Fixed it! Turned out to be the air filter creating a weird resonance booming noise !

You may get an answer here and you may also consider posing the question on the NAS-ROW forum. That's mainly for Defender owners, but I expect there are more people with 300TDI familiarity on that forum than there are here.

I am not sure I hear the noise. The engine sounds just like mine which I think is a good thing. How does it drive?

Read that whole post. Looks like he gave up after spending a lot of money and time. I do think he had a valve that was sticking intermittently. Frankly, I cant be sure if I am hearing background wind noise in the video or the noise you are describing. If you are having the booming noise he describes while driving, could it be a body panel flexing in and out? Maybe some part of the air induction system flexing in and out? Maybe the air induction system is pulling a panel in and or pushing it out? i used to live in a house that the large furnace duct right by the furnace would make a loud booming noise sometimes as the air pressure forced the large duct plenum to expand. It was worse and more frequent when the filter was really dirty. I could see this happening (body panel flexing) in a Defender as they are like big tin boxes.

I’ll post another video of it today ! I am going to disconnect the snorkel as the pipe runs along the inside of the fender and could be rattling making this noise ??
