300tdi Piston Clearance

This is a video of a 300tdi block with new standard pistons and liners fitted

It shows that the pistons can move up/down and left/right in the bores!

Would this lead to problems?

These are the specs
The bore diameter is 90.47mm
The piston diameter is 90.395mm
The ring gap clearance is 0.4mm

We should complete the reassembly soon and should be able to start her up over the weekend.

Dear Edward,
my mates opinion is, all that, video and measures are right.
Take in mind that in the upper side the highest temperature takes place, so the liner dimensions are bigger there.
Piston head temperature: more than 600 ?C
Piston skirt temperature: about 200 ?C
This is the reason for this free play

That looks perfectly normal to me. I can't see any cause for concern with that.

Now I have never rebuilt a 300TDi but I have done many many motors all over the spectrum from small to large gas and diesel.
