I am in the market for a new engine and am leaning towards the 300TDI. I have spoken with Nathan at discountrovers and he is trying to track me one down. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look? I am confident that Nathan can find one, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Chad

I see your in St Louis, MO. You should go over to Pirates4x4 Board in the land rover section and talk to Pendy he is your one stop man for the info you need. He has a shop in Augusta Ks and he does alot of Diesel conversion including the 300tdi. So he would have all the info you will need plus could probly do the conversion for you. Just keep in mind that the Pirate board is ALOT DIFFERNT THAN HERE. They tend to flame you alot so do your research on the subject before you post your questions. Most of the guys are VERY into hard core 4 wheeling and kinda of like given people hell. Anyway, its a good resourse for info on conversions and other radical rover build ups. Later Nutter

Chris,
Thanks for the info. I tried to register to use Pirate, but they won't allow a hotmail account. Do you happen to know his e-mail address?

Thanks

TDi Engine Source

I assume you're talking VW TDi?

If so, try Parts Place inc. in the Detroit area, their current catalog shows several new TDi engines including industrial and automotive at good prices with electronic controls or without, electronic engines can be run without electronics also. They're VW people and are pretty good at it. Oh, they also sell used VW stuff.

Get in touch with Mike at East Coast Rovers. They have done 300Tdi convertions on at least a Series, D90 and a D1. Last I heard they stopped because of the cost and effort but I'm sure they could point you the right way.
I have a 300Tdi. I really like it but I know a lot of people who wouldn't. Really think about what you want before you spend the money

Jeff, put down the crack pipe and back away...... ;) J/K!

Just like "V8" means any engine that has 8 cylinders in a V configuration, "TDi" means an injected turbo-diesel engine. VW, Land Rover, Nissan, Isuzu, etc. etc. etc., most diesel engines in most passenger vehicles these days are some TDi variant.

In Land Rovers outside of North America, the TDi is the common engine. Originally starting life decades ago as the 2.25, it grew to the 2.5 naturally aspirated, then became the 2.5-turbo, then the 200TDi, then the 300TDi. The current TD5 was the first diesel for Rover that got away from their original engine..... (Caveat: this is the nutshell version, overly simplified, but mostly correct, for non-purists).

FWIW....
