So it's been years since I've posted. I have kept my Disco sitting on the back burner and have been waiting for the day I decided to finally get it where I've always wanted it to be. I've finally gotten to the point where I could work on it and do it right. I recently picked up a 03 parts rig and my buddy bought another 03 that we're working on, so when it rains it pours! Anyways, I've always wanted a Mantec Snorkel. As we all know they're like gold, or maybe even rarer. This made me decide to reverse engineer one and draw it up in CAD and 3d print it!

There's a guy on Youtube that measures one out fairly decently, so I've been watching his three videos over and over and over, basically sketch.....watch.....sketch.....figure out the missing variables.

So far so good!

Probably not helpful since it looks like you're trying to copy a D2 Mantec, but I have a D1 Mantec sitting in my garage just asking to be scanned for printing. If someone with a scanner is in the SoCal area, i'll happily swing by and get a scan done.

I've also got a Saudi Grille we could scan!

I wish! I'm having to use what measurements he has on the video and then use those as a baseline to draw it myself in Fusion. The hardest part is going to be the bend where it exits through the fender and wraps around to head up the A pillar. That part I'm going to make as small as possible to reduce print time and filament use, as I figure it will have several attempts needed to get it right.

Things are coming right along! I’ve got the whole thing printed out and it’s turning out beautifully. I need to make one last bracket for the A pillar and source an accordion hose for the middle section under the fender. Overall it’s taken 3 rolls of filament (ASA), four Allen screws (2-1” and 2-3/4”) and one sheet metal screw for the A pillar.IMG_4297.jpeg

Is it possible to get the drawings? I need the top mainly. I converted a Southdown to a more normal manatec shape but the top looks wonky when flipped around (wrong angle).

That is freakin awesome!!! Well done!

I'd like the files too, if it's something you're happy to share! I'd adapt the engine end to my D1... more for fun than anything 🙃 water would take out the ignition on my D1, before filling the intake anyway

As for the Southdown, what’s the OD and angle of the tube? I’ll modify the file to your fit. I’m happy to share files for non commercial purposes. I’m thinking about making and selling them later on.

Ill get a measurement this weekend. And get it over to ya. I'm going to send it out to be MJF printed. Used that on a set of scratch built night vision binos. Nothing like high heat resistant nylon.

Amen! I printed mine in ASA, a derivative of ABS that has more UV resistant. Prints out at 500 degrees F. I’ve had ready good luck with it so far on other projects.

So unfortunately I’m not sure about handing out files until I figure out copyright information first. I’ve had a ton of interest in it, both here on Dweb and elsewhere, and am not sure how I need to move forward. It was a ton of work creating this and truly appreciate the interest. I’ll keep you all posted.

Yes, a lot of work, but unless I misunderstood, RobertF uploaded several files that you used to complete your work. Seems a bit unfair to the community to take freely uploaded material only to copyright it afterward.

As I offered earlier, anyone with a scanner in SoCal can scan my D1 Mantec on the condition the files are uploaded to the public for all to use.

I’m wanting to help the community, I’m just not wanting some corporation somewhere somehow get a hold of it and start selling them. I will not be ripping anybody off and have not ever ripped anybody off. I greatly appreciate Robert’s help and intend to help him with his project
