4.6 Ticking When Warm

shopping for a Disco… found a 2003 4.6 out of state, seller is a used car lot and says he will not let me take it to an outside garage to diagnose what he describes as a ticking that appears only when hot…

trying to assess if this could be a simple exhaust leak or a faulty lifter.
Otherwise the rig seems sound.

Appreciate guidance on what this may be

Scratch that. I’ve already moved on. Not going to deal with someone that won’t let me get it diagnosed

His logic: it’s priced low and he doesn’t want to be nickeled and dimed over a cup holder, door handle, etc.

I would have bought it as is if it was just an exhaust leak but my research is leaning towards a lifter or low oil pressure

Since he knew you were just going to take it in to check the hot ticking, that's not great logic lol

Yeah -- i'm pretty level headed when it comes to old rigs. I don't expect perfection and can do most my own wrenching but do want an accurate read on condition through and through. I'm not one to come back with a long list of petty issues.
