no, what I meant is he had Dana 60 - you can have pretty much any gear ratio you want.
Speaking of gear ratios, it's been an old rule of thumb - multiply your tire diameter by 0.12 (for v8), 0.14 (for six-cylinder) and 0.16 (for four-bangers). For 36" that would be around 4.3 (another very common gear ratio for Dana axles). I'd use 4.11 rather than 4.75 - don't like the idea of one and a half pinion teeth in contact with ring gear. Better yet, get a D110 LT230 with 1.4:1 high ratio and stock gears.

Coming from a desert race background I'd much rather run too much gear than not enough....I think we've run as much as 6.00's on the class 7 Rangers in the past(chase trucks too...but no transfercase underdrive like the Rover). I say run the gears off road and see what you think...as to the locker...that seems wrong....might be worth a peek IMHO.

Way too tall of gear for anything close to a DD, even a weekly driver...for 36's, I'm running 4.88 in a toy axle w' 37 irok's, they work great on jackstands...

That will work for the street, but it only changes your hi range.
Lo will still have the same ratio.

Planet earth currently Oman
"And I don't see any relation between a u-joint going bad and gears, just coincidence."

I had one go after doing a rear pinion seal.....it was fine before, but after I'd pushed it to its max limit to get it the drive shaft out of the way.....to lazy to fully remove....it fully disintegrated one cap 20 miles down the road...

when i returned to the garage where I'd been working...I spotted the needle bearings on the floor......
